Was a fun game. Loved how even with two Canuck prospects in the lineup for the Americans fans here still cheered for the other team.

Q. Hughes was certainly dynamic, every time he touched the puck he made something happen. He did dog it a bit on the back check a few times he got caught deep in a turnover, but the US team is so good it didn’t matter.

Madden looked good, took a bad penalty but also scored a beauty and was around the net a lot.

Robertson was very good, as were the rest of his line.

Tough to gauge against a team of smurfs who barely qualified for this tournament.

Yeah, he was around the puck all night. Was named US player of the game. 4 🍏. Farabee was Johnny on the spot as well with the hat trick. Whalstrom looked good, Miller on D was solid. But like I said, the US was just so much better it’s hard to gauge individual players.

One other thing occurred to me. Why would we fans expect that a player like J Hughes or Kakko would dominate at a tournament like this when there are so many guys with as much or more talent as them on each of the rosters?

It was a lot of fun! I got to see Finland/USA last time the WJHC was in Van, 2005? I think it was the Bronze medal game. Tuka Rask v Jack Johnson. We booed the crap out of JJ

VANTEL was saying he didn’t want to trade Edler because no one draft eligible was exciting enough, especially in the late first round. Basically saying that players like Hughes and Kakko were good but not great, partly because they weren’t impressing at this tournament so far.

What I’m saying is that it’s a bit unfair to expect that a 16/17 year old kid is going to dominate when there are kids that are 2+ years older with much more international experience etc.

Gotcha. You didn’t mention age so it was confusing. There aren’t many kids more talented than Hughes and Kakko in this tournament. More effective (due to age)? Sure.

Kakko was just ok yesterday. Maybe it was because of opponent, but if you don’t play hard against a weak opponent what does that say about you?

Bummed J Hughes didn’t play tonight, but the guys who were drafted last year were really dominant, I’m not sure Jack would have stuck out.

Well it’s always been a 19 year olds tournament...only truly special players excel in their D season or D-1 in lafrieniers case. There likely aren’t any superstars playing in this years WJC despite what Prez will spout. Lafrenier should hopefully be a special player though.

I guess that’s what I’m saying is trying to judge draft eligible players from this tournament is tough because a) so few of them play and b) the returning players tend to get more ice.

Looks like I'm trapped in the car overnight. No plows out. Over a foot of snow on the highways and the big hill up to my house is (frank)ed. Parked abandoned cars in the middle of it. Had to turn around and head back into town. Thought I could park at walmart overnight,,, got stuck trying to get in. They just plowed Save on Foods. I'll sleep there I guess. (frank)ing hell...

Sleep was early & now wide awake lol

Watching old news on EK on Sportsnet.
Got me back to thinking on making a play for him if he goes UFA. Keeping Edler or trading him i’d still resign him to partner with EK if we were to get him. Hughes can start on the 2nd pairing with Tanev. 3rd pair is Hutton/EG. Stecher can be the floater & let OJ keep working on his game in Utica.

Edler/EK
Hughes/Tanev
Hutton/EG
Stecher

Draft Lefty’s LW sniper & we look pretty good. The d combos look very solid.

I was stuck about 100m from Denny's behind a jack knifed truck for about 30 min a couple of hours ago. Three big farm girls and their teenage kid used their 1 ton and a chain to straighten the rig out and then came and helped me. They we just driving around helping one person after another. Great gals. Big meaty farm girls rock!!

I was hoping I got kidnapped but then I remembered the jokes about the farmers daughters.

They were tall... not big as in fat... just big farm girls in sweat pants. They seriously took control of the situation.
