Why do you always overthink things

I don't think anyone else other than Horvat has excelled, and I'm not sure why you do either? Goldobin has more ice because he's been able to dish the puck to Pettersson but I don't think he's suddenly excelled his game.

If you check back to his draft year (Pettersson) I was one of the very few happy campers when they took him. I believe I said, "I don't know how you could be unhappy with this pick". I've been screaming for less meat & potatoes and more pure skill, which I said was what they got when they took him.

Bottom line for me is this team finished sixth last, last year, without Pettersson. With largely the same group of players including Horvat & Boeser.

Don't play the armadillo. Just treat it as a discussion... which it is.

Elias Pettersson won't allow the Canucks to be a bottom team, he's just too good, he's carrying this team. If he can keep this up I'd say they finish just out of the playoffs.

We haven't seen the likes of this type of player since Pavel Bure. By type I mean extremely talented. Bure was imho a generational talent, to this day he is 4th or 5th in NHL history in terms of goals per game, post 67 expansion only Mario Lemieux and Mike Bossy have a higher average than him.

Generational talent is a much overused term, they come around very rarely and usually change the game in some form, Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Bobby Clarke, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy, Pavel Bure, Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid.

In the dead puck era at that.

Again?

They still suck, they've got three good players, I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying without Pettersson is much worse than without Horvat.

- LeftCoaster

Horvat is the heart of the team. Totally disagree on that one. He should be wearing the C. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the Captain to start the new year. I am calling now. The Canucks will have a new Captain to start the year. Book it.

Wasn't he out 6 games ? He has played 34 and the team has played 40

When Beagle was out they went through the 1 of 13 streak

I'm pretty sure they did ok without EP for those games actually. I just tried to pull the game results from TSN, SN and NHL.com. What a (frank) around. Gave up. TSN would only show me empty pages for Canucks content.

You don't have the skill-set to understand that a difference of opinion is just that, a difference of opinion. No one is deflecting or sidestepping anything, they just don't agree with you or your view.

That doesnt mean Horvat isnt carrying this team on multiple levels. He is doing everything... he is our MVP right now. I wouldnt expect Petey to fill in the gap if Hotvat wasnt healthy by taking all those faceoffs. He isnt going to carry a shut down line and continue to produce 1st line points.

Horvat.

- boonerbuck

Agree this team rolls up/down with Horvat.

Pettersson is the easy pick for most as he provides so much offence but when it comes to intangibles and the leadership that Bo brings, tough to say we would be in the same spot without him.

He should have the C on right now.

Didn't Booner used to have a crush on Cody Hodgson?
- Marwood

I went after Gillis for the trade but I only had him as a projected 2nd line C. He ended up playing the 1st line in Buffalo and was top 2 in scoring his two seasons in the top 6. He ultimately failed long term though.

My beef was the bullpoop pouring out of Gillis mouth about the player.

I think it is a combination of things that contribute to this year .

Without a doubt EP is fantastic but the goal tending has improved , the bottom 6 is better , all four lines contributing. Edler Tanev Hutton and Guddy all having a solid year.

The team like one another and are playing for themselves and each other and for the coach and mgmt. That said we are still a .500 team.

What the (frank) are you talking about? Playing me off as stupid for asking you to explain? I gave the reason I don't agree. You are playing this backwards.

This doesnt even make sense. I disagreed with you. A difference of opinion. Can't believe how threatened you are over it.

okay, they would suck a lot more, like in previous years when they were unwatchable and struggled to score more than 2 goals most nights

I'm saying that this team is in full tank mode if without either 1 of EP/Bo on the roster. One scoring line + bottom nine forwards + mediocre/bad defense/goaltending is how you finish at the bottom. Two legit scoring lines + a legit top PP unit can keep you from the bottom tier of the league even if the rest of the roster has warts.

Look at the Oilers last year, they had McJesus as a Hart candidate and still finished 4th last in the West.

I will eat crow on Marky...he has looked unreal over the last 10. Too bad he can't play like that forever we wouldn't need to worry about a starter lol.

I have to as well. He has been unreal and I never thought he could be "the" guy. I was his biggest critic and now I hope he can keep it up. I am seriously rooting for him to continue his success. Happy to be wrong about him.

I am hoping he has turned the corner with his confidence. He is a decent goalie when he is not overthinking things. Cunucks are keeping a lot to the outside and if he can avoid the softies then maybe we can scratch goal tending off the list of things to be fixed.

I know he's not a flashy new toy, but i do think that a big part of the Canucks success this year is due to Markstrom and his improved play.

Credit where credit is due.

edit: NVM. I see there is some credit floating around now

Dustin Brown was the locker room leader for the Kings and their captain. Do you think he was better than Kopitar or Quick? I bet if they waited another year there'd be a huge debate about Pettersson vs Horvat for captain.

It's coming across, I suppose, like I don't care for Horvat, which is totally untrue, love what he brings, he's the second best player on the team and they're good because of both of them, I just believe Pettersson is the MVP at this point, not Horvat.

I don't agree with your assessment that Horvat is more important to the team than my assessment that Pettersson is....where's the deflection LOL!
