Well said, Tessier.
Given that the Jets will be playing with a sort of short-handed starting lineup for the next while, it really does force PoMo to shuffle things up; which, seems like something he is unwilling to do when the team is healthy.
Does this situation force him to consider more flexibility in managing his lines when the team is healthy, or does he lack that creativity when it comes to taking chances with the team?
Patient he certainly is, and I'm a big fan of his, but given that there are so many recipes he could play with, this should hopefully give him enough insight to what these guys can do when given the opportunity to play the system with new line mates.
Sure we be great to see some old-school Little-Wheeler-(throw in some Laine) magic.

So what you are saying is, no matter the anylitics outcome you have a 50% chance at winning? |

50% chance of winning with the determining factor being the how the goalie is performing that night? I would like to see the goalie stats overlaid or correlated against those games that were listed. What is the correlation? |

I'm always a glass half full type guy unlike several of the pessimists on the board. When I see the youngest team in the league being a top-four team in the standings and yet at the same time appear to have low stats with regards to the things Peter mentions such as shooting percentage, CF%, GF% , PDO etc then I see nothing but upside. Of course injuries may slow us down a bit but last year the Jets were very strong in the second half and I see no reason for young team with youthful legs and energy to do even better in the second half. They will also get more and more comfortable with each other and Maurice's winning system. I see a bright future ahead here. My only real worry ever with the Jets is a sudden plague of injuries. Other than that I'd just like to see Laine play better 5 vs 5. |

I’m saying it’s hard to get a read because this team shoulf be better but something has changed from last year yet here they are... *shrugs* |

I would love for fact based analytics to be available as a true metric of team performance. The trouble is that Corsi is to fact based results is what alchemy is to science. It is a beginning of the process of being able to manage the data and assess what is going on but frankly those who cling to too tightly are drinking their dillusions and hoping it is an elixir of youth.
Corsi doesn't recognize the value of a shift that results in a goal vs one that produces 6 rebounds and no goals. It doesn't speak enough to game situations. It is often mis-used to evaluate talent while neglecting development and systems. If there was a Corsi-esk stat for boxing Ali would have been destroyed by Foreman in Africa, instead Ali improvised the 'rope-a-dope' and won despite Forman doing everything right. I am convinced that rope-a-dope has a legit place in hockey as well. Teams such as Chicago and LA regressed soon after adapting so called advanced metrics while attempting to extend their success. Hurricanes are conspicuous anomaly. Arizona - need i say more?
Perhaps if all shifts that result in goals were removed from the Corsi stats, only 5v5, continueing to refine score effect and quality of chance measurements it would become more valuable. It's biggest value to date has been that it has successfully got fans thinking about new ways to measure the performance and progression of their teams.
PDO is more interesting and there will be other measurements becoming public soon that will render Corsi about as valuable as +/-. |

The Jets are a different team than last year. They don't score first anymore, PK is structured a little different and not as successful, they are not as aggressive throughout the lineup. I am not worried about Helly unless there is injury. All said, here we are with a fantastic record, buyers at the deadline, in the hunt for 1st in the west and favourable playoff matchups and getting national attention for success.
The coach and players don't talk as much about 'playing the right way' as they did last year, and perhaps a little less committment to doing the hard stuff like finishing checks and blocking shots. Moving on from Hendricks was a correct decision but I wonder if this is an attitude commitment he was able to share with the team.
It's a good time to be a Jet fan. |

Maurice has to stop being so stubborn and separate Laine and Little. When they are on the ice it is obvious that they have zero chemistry playing together. Its time to see Laine centered by Roslovic and move up Appleton to create a line that could do something offensively. The Jets need a 2nd line can do more than just take up ice time. |

I think the "youngest team" thing is a bit over used. I mean, what is the difference between the oldest and youngest, probably less than 2 years. that's nothing.
but I agree, until you start seeing CF%, GF%, PDO on the back of a hockey card its just added info that can be looked at the same with all other information and visuals. |

This is actually a good stance to have. I remember waiting for the bottom to fall out last year because we were playing like ass and scoring at a ridiculous rate, and rather than regress, the underlying numbers trended up to match the scoring |

The most concerning thing that no one really brings up is that Scheifele is number 2 in minutes played by a forward in the NHL. The other 4 forwards are all on non-playoff or marginal playoff teams. I keep hearing that the Jets have depth, where is it? By the time the time the playoffs come around Scheifele is going to be super burned out. |

anyone else notice/hate the room Wheeler gives the D while killing penalties? |

YES! - thought it was just me but Scheif/Wheels on PK has been lit up lately. Way too much gap to the point. The first goal vs Pittsburg that deflected off Wheeler's stick is a symptom of collapsing too deep on PK. We are so dependent on Wheels/Scheifle... we can't afford to have them injured blocking shots on the PK. I would like to see others developed into a PK role (Lemieux, Appleton) |

I guess if I was a glass half empty guy then I would be saying that the primary reason the Jets are so high in the standings is because of their specialty teams, both of which are top or near top in the NHL. Add that to their 3 vs 3 overtime record and you suddenly have a lot of wins . What I'm hoping is that the 5 vs 5 improves in the second half without the specialty team play regressing too much. Then we will really have a powerhouse.

Move Laine down to fourth for a bit and move Lemieux or Appleton up with Little and Roslovic. See what happens. I guarantee it becomes a better line.
I should add that over the last few games I'm really starting to see the potential of Lemiuex. His speed is top notch, aggressive on the boards, really good shot, and the talked about potential of his amazing hands as a tip in guy. I think he could be a keeper and start to shine in about two years time. Certainly, he is a huge upgrade over guys like Petan and Dano. |

He wasn’t even good with the Moose. Lazy, undisciplined, no hockey IQ, and has a penchant for handling he puck like a grenade at least 2/5 of the time |

This is a critical 7 game stretch here before the All Star Break. With 4 games against division rivals this is a big opportunity to put some distance between us and the rest of the pack. Definitely hasn't been as pretty as last season but getting the points is all that matters at this point. Would still love to see us grab someone like Duchene or Hayes at the deadline but a bit worried about what the price may be. I almost wonder if it may be worthwhile to go after a couple guys like Staal and Bouwmeester at more reasonable costs. Would love to see a forward group like Ehlers/Scheifs/Wheels, Little/Staal/Laine, KC/Copp/Roslo, Perreault/Lowry/Tanev |

His stats last year on the Moose are only slightly behind Petan’s? Petan had 9 more overall points but less goals. You could say Petan was aided with secondary assists. So are these points you made true of Petan as well? Asking for a friend. |

The true answer is that any player or coach that takes ice time or roster spots away from Dano ,Petan, or even Perreault, is a bum to be forever shunned upon. |

I would like to see him in playoffs because his role will be to crash and bang, get in quick on the puck and create havoc. Playoffs are a completely different season and I think coaching staff want him around come playoffs to play this type of role. If he can control himself with a reduction in dumb penalties, this is the type of player you want for playoffs.
That is the time of year his old man used to show up and shine. |

its time to swap Lowry and little and find out what Lowry's offensive upside is and if the 4th line is destined to only see 4-8 min then go with this;
Perreault-Scheifele-Laine
Connor-Lowry-Wheeler
Copp -Little-Ros
Tanev-Petan-Apples
Morrissey-Niku
Chiarot-Trouba
