Leafs are a good team. I don't think any drastic shake ups are needed. Obviously adding a defender would be appreciated, but they shouldn't let Kadri go to make it happen. He's having a down year but he's a veteran center, who is actually gritty and most importantly has a good value contract. Can't trade those.
Not to mention we'd have to sell low on him at this time, so not ideal. - UsernameUnknown
They are a talented team.
They should be better than they are given the talent. They take too many nights off. They can hang with anyone in the league when they put in the work. They just haven't learned how to do that yet.

Don’t think it’s a great look. Marner already wasn’t too happy about it in his post game apparently. - ClarksonDavid
this isn't pee-wee Mitch... .I get you want to defend your teammate...
don't start that "what do the dumb fans know theme"... THAT will not go well.

Nylander signing looking better by the day - RedRevenge
Not to worry.
Willy is going to develop a mystery rash and have to go on the LTIR, then miraculously return for Game 1 of the playoffs after we've used his cap at the deadline. |

Talent isn’t there on defense.
Offensively yes, but as an overall team they aren’t complete enough to hang with the truly elite.
And the thing is they were talented and deadly enough on offense WITHOUT Nylander.
Signing him for 7mil instead of shopping him for help on defense was beyond dumb.

Yeah honestly that was pathetic by the Leafs fans in attendance.
We want these players to want to play here and possibly play for a bit cheaper....but they listen to their 2nd best d men and friend get boo’d?
Our fans suck sometimes. |

When they're paying an average of $300 per ticket they deserve to see a better game then they got tonight. I was at a meeting tonight and didn't get to catch the game, but everything I see after the game says Gardiner deserved it.
Maybe this will turn out to be a positive and a wake up call for Gardiner. We'll see. |

Gardiner was awful, but I really don't understand booing your own players. Especially when the team is as good as it is.
Like, if the Leafs were one of the worst teams in the league, that's different. But they're not. They're one of the best.
I mean, I'll poop talk gardiner, but I wouldn't boo him if I was at the game. |

The thing is they haven't been that good since Christmas. Good teams find ways to win, bad teams find ways to lose. The Leafs have been doing a lot of losing lately, and none of it was because Andersen was injured. They're just not putting the effort in, which Gardiner demonstrated perfectly tonight. |

Uhmmm. Yeah the sad truth is that when you buy that ticket you need to be fully aware that it could be a horrible game. No matter how good the team is. Tampa got smashed by Arizona 7-2 this season....
It’s hockey. Teams will suck some nights and that’s just the way it goes. As fans, you need to be more mature and accept the risk you took.
These players probably hated that Gardiner was booed tonight. They are on pace to beat their season record for points in over 100 years....they are top 5 in winning percentage in the entire league....Gardiner is their 2nd best defensemen....and he was booed.
That does not happen on other teams. And it’s a negative not a positive. We want these players to want to play here. Tonight Leaf fans failed in that area.

Yeah, that IG stuff was horrible, but it's the state of the internet in 2019. Every public figure has to deal with that poop, not just Leaf players. Pro European Football players get it a lot worse...
Gardiner had a poop night. He got boo'd, and that upset him. I don't mind fans in the arena doing that, it's their right to do so when it's justified - they paid for the privilege.
Hopefully being upset makes him decide to step up and play a better game. He needs to. |

I do not agree. The Leafs are an average team with a collection of good young players that can score off of the rush, but have no physical presence. It's laughable, when I hear Babd!ck talk about playing heavy. They only play heavy, when they eat lots of turkey over the holidays. Only two of their defenders are average or above average, Dermott and Rielly. The rest are either on the decline or not good enough for a contending team.
In reality, this team is in year 3 of their rebuild. Maybe we need to be more realistic and start thinking about being sellers at the deadline and promote from within. Last week, I thought that moving a couple of assets could make a difference, if they could acquire a top 4 defender. Unfortunately, they need three defenders. My feelings now is move overpaid Willy for a top 4 defender, promote either Marchment or Moore from the Marlies and wait for Sandin and Lilegren to grow into regulars on the back end. Play out this season, lose in the first round and pay less for their two marquee young players, due to lack of star power point production. Now is not the time to start moving young assets, because this team is missing too many pieces to be a true contender. Willy is another matter, since he was overpaid and acted like a mercenary. No defense, no grit, means no playoff success. So much for the idea that this team was the best Leafs roster since the 1940's, like a few on here were proclaiming two weeks ago. |

The point isn’t that Nylander hasn’t been worth his contract so far(very small sample size, surely he’s eventually gonna break through and improve)....it’s that they clearly didn’t need him, already have an explosive and deep offensive lineup.
The obvious weakness on the roster was the Dcore...they had a golden opportunity to upgrade and instead elected to further stockpile the forwards by keeping Nylander.
Makes no sense. |

Gardiner is 28 years old and has been in the league long enough to know better. His game 7 performance was a huge red flag, last year. He's been average most nights and makes too many errors. Since it's a contract year for him, it's time to cut bait and gain an asset. It can be a trade, or a sign and trade. His time here is up and it's time to not make the same mistake as last year, when Van Riemsdyk was allowed to leave without getting assets, knowing that we could not afford to sign him after a career year.
