what a bunch of loser fans that do that poop - senstroll
I agree with that part, but painting all fans in this light is so off base. I would never post something on Gardiner's IG like that as most wouldnt. Every fan base has toxic people in it, its not just the Leafs |

That doesnt sound right at all, in fact there were people who called out Marners poor play last night. JT/Marner cant be the best players every single night, they need others to step up.
Marner's poor play at the blue line created the opportunity, but Gardiner's awful play on the puck shouldnt happen. People are clearly frustrated seeing the same narrative playout year after year....
I actually like Gardiner, He needs a new partner for sure. |

Yeah, no. A lot of people were batting eyes.
People were/are all over Marner for his poor play last night. |

Jake got boo'd and people posted BS on his social media...I am sure at a ratio of 10 or 20x any other player. that might be low balling it..
nobody was good last night.. Jake got Benched and Dermott took his spot and almost immediately he was outworked behind his net and Col scored.
Leafs just need to trade Jake, I am so (frank)ing tired of listening to the cry babies |

Of course they're not happy - the boo reflects on them, too. Plus it's normal to want to defend your teammate, and I would expect nothing less from them.
Good night, everyone! - TrashPanda
Fans boo, they pay to be there. Who cares, as long as they arent throwing things or doing anything illegal. Its part of the game.
Such is life of the sport. |

Jt and marner have carried this team. Theyre allowed an off night.

I have absolutely nothing to base this on, so I can't say this with any degree of certainty, but I disagree.
I don't like Gardiner and think perhaps Zaitsev would be better suited with a more stable partner. |

I agree, but I dont agree with singling out a player. Am I pissed a players when they make poor plays? Yes, but no need to single Jake out with boos, the whole team was awful. Boo the whole team, not just the individual. |

Leaf fans have a history of booing good players, especially dmen, HOFer Larry Murphy probably being the most notable. For some reason Leaf fans like to find one player and blame them for all the team's problems, while putting other players on a pedestal.
I remember people here were blaming Tyler Ennis and his 4th line minutes for the team's early season slump even though the whole team wasn't playing well. It's weird. - 13sundin13
Gardiner has a long history of fack ups. So its not like hes completely innocent and the boos are undeserved. |

Damn. You caught me. They both suck.
Remember when Gardiner/Franson was out bottom pair and they tore up 4th liners and everyone thought we should have replaced Franson with Phaneuf on the 1st pair? |

Yeah honestly that was pathetic by the Leafs fans in attendance.
We want these players to want to play here and possibly play for a bit cheaper....but they listen to their 2nd best d men and friend get boo’d?
Our fans suck sometimes. - Santo_44
Omg quit being dramatic.
He got boo'd, who cares.
Jesus.
Jake getting boo'd will have no impact on anyone not taking or taking a discount or deciding to not playing here.
Thats just stupid.
Its sports, if you consistently make stupid plays that consistently lead to goals, some fans will turn on you. Its sports. Fans will boo.
As long as they dont harass or do anything illegal, its all par for the course. |

I'm not a fan of Gardiner, but right now he's one of our better defensemen and booing him was unwarranted. Last night everyone sucked - so boo the fracking team. Kadri looked terrible - his giveaway was pure poop, but I was more disturbed when he took some abuse at the side of the Avs net and skated away without batting an eyelash. Where's the heart and fire and leadership? Where's that edge he supposedly has/had? Quite frankly, the team looks disinterested, lazy and sloppy from top to bottom (except for Mitch!) - they better do something quick to turn it around (players, coach & GM), as the only thing they're destined for right now is a round 1 exit. |

I have never once, in all my years of watching professional sports, ever heard any fans boo the team they cheer for until last night. It was an appalling display of poor sportsmanship and I would understand completely if the Leafs quit hockeying until next year. |

He constantly makes big fack ups. The past two led to two goals in two different games. Some voiced their displeasure.
Now, will booing help his confidence and help him make better plays? No. Probably doesnt help at all.
But for fack sakes its not the end of the world.
He comes back and makes 1 great stretch pass out of 5-6 attempts that leads to a goal, im sure the fans will cheer him.
Its sports. |

over the last decade I have learned that I really dont know much of anything about defensive play in hockey.
especially when it comes to Defensman
Things that I thought were important probably arnt and tiny things I ignore are probably much more important that I think.

Zaitsev isn't trying to cover up for Gardiner or holding back for Gardiner or supporting Gardiner. With a player like Gardiner, you need a more cognizant and defensively aware partner to allow him to wheel. Zaitsev is not overly good at anything other than skating. He's a poor passer, he has a passable shot, he's not strong on the boards, his positional play is average, and his awareness is below average.

It has now been 423 days since Nikita Zaitsev picked up a primary assist. That 's 94 consecutive regular season + playoff games.

You mean, someone he can dish the puck to like a grenade in panic, and have said partner skate the puck out cleanly 95% of the time? Oh wait, he has that partner already. |
