Well its funny.

Gardiner's stats without Zaitzev are astronomically better. The Athletic came out with an article on it today.

Z relies heavily on Gardiner on every breakout and other teams know it. It is pretty easy to exploit.

Even Oz can make a first pass out of the zone but Z just panics and either gives it to Gards or throws it to the center who's more often than not covered.

Do you have a family tie to Jake Gardiner?
You're quite an enthusiastic defender of his play and abilities..

I feel the same way about Gardiner as I did with Bozak and JVR. I've seen all they have to offer and believe turning the page will be best for the team, and hopefully the player. I don't dislike Jake, I don't know him personally, but I believe the team will be well served to move on from him after this season.

Oh Gardiner is probably gone.

Dubas will(should) find his replacement this deadline. It sounds like it when he said a month ago that he wants a D with term at the deadline....the writing is kind of on the wall there.

Gardiner's exploits existed long, long before Zaitsev and Oz joined the Leafs.

This isn't a new revelation with Jake.

Another player who just needed a better partner was Cody Franson. And he's finally getting that in Omsk.

I agree.
Gardiner has pros and of course very glaring cons, but the leafs without him right now would be a worse team. We need to get to a point where we can be better without him and that's what Dubby has to do before next season, because for better or worse, they will be without him.

You were right before when you said Gardiner must have been booed once in 2013. That's clearly affecting him now..

Gardiner needs to be traded... To Philly. Gardiner and Brown for Gudas and Simmonds. That will change the makeup of this team.

Uhmmm. Yeah the sad truth is that when you buy that ticket you need to be fully aware that it could be a horrible game. No matter how good the team is. Tampa got smashed by Arizona 7-2 this season....

It’s hockey. Teams will suck some nights and that’s just the way it goes. As fans, you need to be more mature and accept the risk you took.

These players probably hated that Gardiner was booed tonight. They are on pace to beat their season record for points in over 100 years....they are top 5 in winning percentage in the entire league....Gardiner is their 2nd best defensemen....and he was booed.

That does not happen on other teams. And it’s a negative not a positive. We want these players to want to play here. Tonight Leaf fans failed in that area.

Honestly this is why some players never want to play in Toronto.

- Santo_44

going to call total BS here...

after many years of watching the Leafs and listening to the media largely blow smoke up their you know what... these guys are well paid, they will on any given night not be successful (meaning lose).

what they can control is effort, preparation and improvement learning.

I don't find that booing a player or team is problematic, when they fail to either prepare or don't give effort.

this isn't little Johnny's mite team... where everyone gets a medal when they participate in a tournament. (huge vomit here).

Tavares signed here knowing the pressures that come with the position and team popularity. Stamkos did not. Doughty said he wouldn't want to. That's up to them at the time of being a Free Agent.

If some of these Snowflakes don't or won't sign with the Leafs because the "fans might boo them"... I would suggest that Shanahan would say thank you and be happy not to have signed that player.

Fans have the right to expect effort and when a high paid athlete doesn't consistently deliver anything but mistakes... or consistently makes the same ones, he/she expect to be criticized. If the team doesn't want to see a player called out... then deal with the repeated under performance in the locker room.

I have never once, in all my years of watching professional sports, ever heard any fans boo the team they cheer for until last night. It was an appalling display of poor sportsmanship and I would understand completely if the Leafs quit hockeying until next year.

one hundred percent agreement.

although I do beleive that the team (on ice) would be well served to move him before the TradeDeadline, since its pretty clear that they shouldn't resign him (not debating what the $$$ should be)

get something for him... and insert someone else in his spot - then we'll all know how important he is to the team.

I don't need stats to be honest. I use my eyes and brains. Cody Franson was a good looking player analytics wise. A mere 31 NHL teams passed on him.

I complete and major (frank) up every other game, and I'd be Jake's biggest fan. I just cannot take the numerous one every single game of his 8 years career. Dude, you've played 530 odd NHL games, you dumb (frank), learn something. Anything i beg you

absolutely.

f___ ridiculous how the twinkies, tweeners and snowflakes are rallying to "poor little Jake's" defense.

all the whining about Larry Murphy... as a comparison.

just idiotic.

if you want a loud engaged audience, you have to accept that fans will also become annoyed with players... and let them know.

no one would ever suggest that the Habs fans aren't passionate... and they bring that voice to the games - as they should.

Passionate fans....the good and the bad but you know what you are getting.

Fans are not all cheerleaders that only focus on the positive and shut up on the anything negative, that's how you improve or bring in a winning attitude, passion. Players have to be accountable..if they suck...fans have the right to let them know...they are the paying customer.

Stats prove a lot.

Z gets pelted in every single category without Gardiner. What your eyes don't tell you is the fact Z can't make a breakout pass....at all. Why? Because he throws the puck to Gardiner any chance he can get. So you actually never see Z make a breakout pass.
