Yeah I don't agree.
All of them will get hefty raises. And that is with the Matthews, Marner, JT, Nylander contracts. and Lil/Sandin won't be too far after them. - Santo_44
At least you don't completely disagree. I feel there's some common ground between us we can work with. |

He comes with his mistakes.
It is why he is a second pairing D and not a 1st. - Santo_44
gonna argue this...
he's a second pairing defenseman... no debate in theory.
except .... he can't kill penalties (as evidenced by how Babcock uses him)
this year, his biggest upside - offense - has largely disappeared - he rarely rushes the puck effectively.
so really, he's Torey Krug... a #5 defenseman who doesn't kill penalties - who doesn't get much powerplay time.
he has regressed - period.

I'm sorry, but I was at a loss for words. Krug has 5 more pts in 10 less games, higher CF relative to team (by like 3-4), and QBs the Bruins' #1 PP, which is around #3 in the league I believe.
I would very much like to see the splits on them exiting their own zone as well. |

The least posses the least physical defence in the NHL. That fact alone is a disaster in the playoffs. The first 20 games teams watched, and now teams know exactly how to beat the Leafs. Even their bigger players basically throw zero body checks. Gardner is simply too weak on defence, and he makes so many mistakes that people have finally had enough. I think he could be very useful as a winger (as he was until his final year at college). If they don't at least try something different with him he will be booed out of town. I feel bad for him because Zeitsev is even worse, but people are still holding onto hope he turns out. |

I wasn't trying to slam Krug... just draw the comparison of how Gardiner is perceived... with how (in my opinion) Gardiner should be perceived.
Krug is "identified" generally as a PP specialist and not that great in his own zone... as he doesn't get the tough assignments generally.
Gardiner "used to be a PP guy", who's been usurped by Rielly on the powerplay ... and who isn't capable of killing penalties.
Krug's a far more effective player... wasn't trying to compare them ... just call out Gardiner's short comings. |

If you were referring to Gardiner alone then that's fine, it just wasn't very clear to me. As a different point of contention, I personally wouldn't draw them as comparables with their ability to run a PP although I'll give you that would be difficult to factually draw a conclusion as one gets the time and the other doesn't.
One other point I'd like to make is that although Krug may not be the strongest on the puck, he's better in his own zone than I think he's given credit for. Also he is great at breaking the puck out, which I think often falls on deaf ears when people evaluate how a player plays in his own zone. If you can't get it out you'll be there all day. Gardiner definitely can have issues in that department (stretch passes and what is chalked up as "his mistakes"). Krug 100% gets favorable matchups and I'd imagine his deployment weighs heavily in oZF. |

Gardiner +18, Krug -9.
We all know that +/- is the only stat that matters in the NHL.. Which means that Gardiner is 27 times better than Krug. |

Deslauriers.
And yeah, been a while since I've seen two guys pummel each other like that.
I thought for sure you guys would win in OT, that third period was pretty much just Price stopping everything.... until that good shot by Krecji (nice position of Debrusk in front of the net too). |

true... but he plays smaller
serious question - is there a limit to how a team can hold back in terms of contract? i.e. Leafs are holding 1.5M$ for Kessel... is there a limit to that amount?
