Question. If Farabee were to sign an NHL/AHL contract would he be able to play for the Phantoms next season? - youarewrong
Yes, the under-20 rule is only for CHL players. Robert Hagg played for the Phantoms as a 19-year-old, AND it counted as a slide rule season since he was under 20. |

"And one look at the Flyers’ cap situation would suggest that Simmonds, who is no doubt due a raise, is going to be heading elsewhere sooner or later."
Huh? There are reasons why Simmonds may be moving on rather than being re-signed but the cap isn't one of them. The Flyers are in good shape cap wise. Contract TERM, not cap hit, is the issue with Simmonds. - bmeltzer
I’m thinking that the only relevant part about cap space is linked to the term. Flyers are good for the next 4 years, but if they sign Simmonds for longer than that it becomes a potential issue with the younger core and up and coming youth needing longer deals.

kid is all of 20 and does show flashes to why he was picked 2nd overall. Do I wish he would have put big numbers up from the get go, sure. But i understand young players develop at their own pace. I have high hopes for Patrick - nastyflyergirl
Yup and we saw these flashes consistently in the 2nd half of last season. He’s still very young and I’m not as worried as some people are about him and his development. My hopes are high as well and I would be very upset if he was traded, but that won’t happen. |

Is Weise officially toxic? I thought they were just trying to find him a new home, since he was unhappy w/ TOI, etc.
By all accounts, he's a really good teammate. |

If he refused they could mutually terminate. - dragonoffrost
Mutual termination means both the player and the team agree to terminate the contract. Weise refusing to report to the AHL would more than likely result in the team placing him on the suspended list.

It's a huge shame that NAK wasn't called up when they decided Weise's time as a Flyer was over. Now it looks like he won't play another NHL game until next season.
Meanwhile in Boston young forwards like Heinen and Forsbacka Karlsson get promoted to the NHL and given meaningful roles at age 22 after just one full season in the AHL. - Feanor
Boston management knows what they're doing. Flyers management doesn't.

Which then would help him decide to mutually terminate as he wouldn't be being paid while suspended and would be able to look elsewhere if his deal was terminated. |

Why would he walk away from that money? There are other avenues that the Flyers can try and use but mutual termination involves both side agreeing.

There has been no evidence of Weise being toxic, yet people keep saying it as absolute fact. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but we know he is not part of the team and it is strange. It is absolutely possible he was given the choice to get sent down or go home, either way it ends up being the same thing.
Speaking of toxic, why do I keep reading the words "Patrick was just being polite"? Patrick doesn't have to say poop, he said it because that's how he felt. If he was being polite, he just wouldn't say anything...logic dear Watson, logic. |

I think that all makes sense but it still doesn't really explain why the Flyers have gone with only 12 forwards. Why not just keep him as a extra forward? Why did they waive him? If they want to trade him it makes sense to keep him with the team. Even play some. Why devalue your own asset that doesn't have much value to start with?

Because if he gets hurt during game or practice then you can't move him at all. |

So their protecting him as an asset so he doesn't get hurt. Why aren't they doing that with Simmonds? Or Raffl?

No, I comprehended completely. I was trying to explore why you think a mutual termination might happen. I'll put it as simply as I can. A mutual termination is highly unlikely. For one, Weise would be walking away from considerable money, and two, it could lead to the end of his NHL career. |
