Wow, they must really consider Weise to be toxic if they'd rather the Phantoms go with 10 forwards instead of sending him down. I really doubt any NHL team would take him at this point even if the Flyers retained the max 50%.

The only possible option that I can see is that the Flyers take a larger, expiring contract coming back along with retaining the 50%. The deal could include a handshake agreement that the acquiring club buys out Weise after this season. This way the other club saves some real cash and the 2 year cap penalties are split evenly between the 2 teams for the next 2 years.

This would leave the Flyers with roughly 590K of dead cap space next season and a paltry 290K in 20-21.

Bill: Is it possible the situation with Weise is being driven by Weise asking out of the organization, altogether?

It's a huge shame that NAK wasn't called up when they decided Weise's time as a Flyer was over. Now it looks like he won't play another NHL game until next season.

Meanwhile in Boston young forwards like Heinen and Forsbacka Karlsson get promoted to the NHL and given meaningful roles at age 22 after just one full season in the AHL.

Since Hart could go to LHV during the break, what about Varone? They need a forward way more that another Goalie right now.

Weise situation is for sure bizarre. You would assume they view him as toxic with him not being sent down with the list of injuries, but then you have Patrick saying he’s a great teammate, yet Patrick’s play has been better since the Weise move (lol). But he could have just been polite supporting the guy. I do wonder if Weise openly said he would not report to the Phantoms if assigned there and the Flyers didn’t want more drama on what’s been an eventful season and are eagerly trying to get a trade going.

they may and I would love to know what the real story is but also isn't there a veteran rule as far as how many vets you can dress? Maybe that plays into it?

it also might just be a respect for a vet, that they gave him a choice....maybe his agent is able to look for a deal? It was weird in the sense that they announced it, the way they did. I won't miss anything this guy brought....a disappointing term as a Flyer.

Yes, but they are mostly dressing low level prospects and guys on minor league deals right now, I don't think the vet rule is factoring in to it at all.

I'd buy the respect thing if I thought they really had that much respect for a tool like Weise.

It would be hilarious if After finding out he was scratched in favor of Lehterä that Weise complained to Gordon, “how can you scratch me for a man involved with a coke arrest?!”

the Flyers have 27 players on the cap counting the guys on IR and still have $8,147,227 cap space. they will have about 33,000,000 in cap space with 11 roster spots to fill including re-signing, signing, trading or promoting players. They really are in a good position to get a lot better if the Flyers make the right moves. One thing I do like about moving on from Hextall is we now have a fresh set of eyes without any bias (not sure if that is the word i am searching for exactly). I just really hope Fletcher makes the right moves
