I don't know if that was the case. Obviously him being in Greens doghouse last year was a bad sign but I think a fair amount of people believed him when he said he was going to recommit over the summer. - NorthNuck
Buddy is right. Most here did think Hutton was done, myself included.

I thought Hutton was done. concerned if he came back the same or even slightly improved he still wouldn't be worth a qualifying offer as an rfa.
Still not sure what $$ he should be offered in the summer. 4+ ?
Edler will be resigned and if Hutton can keep this level of play up Hughes will be starting behind both of them and that is a good thing. Let him play bottom pairing with lots of PP time to start - NorthNuck
Stand by my prediction, we will see! He could end up on either side.

Depends on how long Edler is out and he can keep this up imo. If Edlers not gone long I think in the 3mil range would be more appropriate but if he's logging these minutes for the next 15 games he might command over 4

I keep on thinking Edler/agent will want a couple more million than Hutton.
But if Hutton continues his level of play in the role he has been put in, he could be in line for some salary arbitration and a big raise.
Talking about a guys "career highs" when he is 22 years old is ridiculous
- NorthNuck
So is talking about a player that has played 3 games out of his 195 like a power forward as a must keep player.
You may want to save yourself some future disappointment by looking at Jake like more of a Jannik Hansen and less of a Cam Neely or Todd Burtuzzi. - VANTEL
Hansen was a useful player and JV has a bit more sandpaper to his game. I’d like to hold onto him.

Cool then we can trade him for another Goldobin, no thanks.

Nobody is suggesting you give him away for free, or for Goldobin.
The original comment was if the right deal came along I would take it. I suggested last night Jake for Fabro . I said I would jump at that.
For the record someone on SN650 suggested the very same proposal today and both Satiar Shah and the other guy said they would absolutely take that. Only the experts here think Jake is untouchable.

i don't think there was a single person who said jake was untouchable on these boards lol. I think people just want the right price for him, and if the return isn't big, than wait it out and watch him continue developing. He has progressed every year, and is still young at 22. At this point, I would hope Benning takes calls on anyone not named Pettersson/Hughes/Boeser/Horvat/Woo/Madden/Demko.

Well Dante Fabro is the right price . Jake has almost identical numbers as Brandon Tanev. Jake was almost a healthy scratch last week by Green. He can not beat out the likes of Leivo or Goldobin for top 6 minutes.
It may sound like I don't like Jake but that is absolutely wrong . I am just being realistic that he is not a power forward and more than likely will more than likely be a career third liner.

You've got the wrong guy, I never referred to JV as a power forward. I just happen to be of the opinion that a team as far away as us can afford to be a little patient with a player who clearly hasn't fully developed yet.

Well Canucks were bad in 2012 so this is 6 years , how many more years do we wait before making moves to improve?
Just a reminder look at where the Habs were last year and some of the moves they made in the last 3 years and look where they are today.

i never got the impression you didn't like him. I hear what you are saying, and if Benning was smart, he would definitely listen to what teams are offering an any of his players outside of a select few, and I am not sure Virtanen belongs in that group. Having said that, and to counter, Virtanen is still young, has improved every year, and tends to bring a few aspects in his game that this team still is short on, so keeping him around wouldn't be bad either.
As for the career 3rd liner part. That is subjective. Prez seems to think 15-20 goal scoring wingers are generally 2nd line wingers. Virtanen is on pace to score between 15-20. Tom Wilson has never scored more than 14 in a season (albeit bound to eclipse that this year) and he has primarily played on the 1st and 2nd lines the last few years. So I don't put much weight into what line a player plays on. LE played 4 more minutes than petey a week ago and was listed as 3rd line lol. If we win a cup and Pettersson is on the 3rd or 4th line, I won't care.

I actually really like that deal tbh. Makes a lot of sense, one of the few things we agree on is building from the back end forward

Virtanen is young and has improved and with his best year ever he is one point behind Brody Tkachuck who has played 12 less games. I guess I have a different opinion of how a power forward plays.
For the record it will be a cold day in hell before I listen to Prez for any hockey advice.

No, but to counter, no one should be expecting this anymore either. Virtanen isn't the second coming of Jamie Benn, or Brady Tkachuk. I think the sooner we throw away those projections or hopes, we can see Virtanen for who he really is, and hope that he continues developing into a 2nd or 3rd line winger, which i would be totally fine with.

I do know where Jake stands and others do on here like Lefty and Nucker . He is a decent third line player. His best comparable is Brandon Tanev and I like Tanev too . I would also trade Tanev in the blink of an eye for Fabro.
Since they only started the rebuild 2 years ago, I'm going to guess 3 or 4 more years until they are going deep playoffs if all goes well. - Marwood
Hopefully we're right in the race next year possibly making it, after that we start to build for eventual cup competition, as you said, 3-4 years from now
