Carol Schram: Elias Pettersson' 25th of the year earns Canucks a point against Blackhawks A game-tying goal by Elias Pettersson with 1:52 left to play in the third period salvaged a point for the Vancouver Canucks, but their road trip ended with a third-straight loss after Jonathan Toews gave the Chicago Blackhawks at 4-3 overtime win.

Carol Schram: I'll continue to stump for Guillaume Brisebois to get a chance, too, as a natural lefty.

It is nice to be in contention for a playoff spot but I want to see the team develop players and see where they are at in their development.

I wanted to see Brisebois get into the lineup and then Biega ended up scoring...

Thank you CS.

I'm also not convinced that using Chris Tanev on the left side doesn't just make things worse. That's not exactly a hot take given that he was on the ice for all four Chicago goals on Thursday, even if only one came at 5-on-5. I'd much rather see him eat his usual 20-plus minutes in his usual right-side roleā€”even if that means playing Biega in a limited role on the left. But I guess the problem is that Travis Green doesn't really trust Derrick Pouliot, either. Pouliot played just 12:48 on Thursday, with no special-teams time, while Tanev logged 20:50 including 5:52 on the penalty kill and Ben Hutton broke the 30-minute mark for the first time in his career, playing 5:18 on the power play and 4:22 shorthanded on his way to a 31:18 night.

I'll continue to stump for Guillaume Brisebois to get a chance, as a natural lefty.

Still find it hilarious that Hutton is being shopped around on a team that's desperate for half-decent dmen.

He and Stecher have looked OK as a 2nd pairing. Both are young and cost efficient too.

I thought Stecher and Hutton have been really good together in their last few games. Huttons agent tweeted this morning, that over the last 2 games, Hutton has played 59 minutes and has been leading the canucks blueline in TOI over the last two. Hes definitely getting better, and that pairing is working right now

Considering most thought Hutton wouldn't be on the team to start the season, I agree.

I'd like to see some of the dmen from Utica get some games in with the Canucks. was hoping Pouliot would be moved and we could have some guys rotate in and out. I guess Pouliot has no value in a trade beyond being a throw in.

I'm glad Hutton has had a bounce back season but I'm not sure what to do with him? Expecting Hughes to be the 2nd pairing dman next season, Edler will likely be back for top pairing and Hutton would be making too much coin to be slotted into the third pairing.

Edler averages like 55-60 games played over the past 4 years. Hughes is far from a lock to be ready for a top 4 role as a rookie dman. He may need to be sheltered at 5v5.

The Comets defense is not good, if any of those guys become a decent #6 NHL dman that should be considered a win(OJ excluded). If people have no issues with 3M dollar bottom 6 players, I don't see how paying Hutton is an issue at all. We always complain that the defense sucks and how this team falls apart when a guy gets injured, but somehow having a solid 3rd pairing gets labeled as a "problem"

You can't pass on having a solid 3rd pairing dman and then later complain about injuries sinking the team.

Hopefully with Sutter back and that recent rest Bo will be able to get on track.

Our top2 guys are made of glass. We need depth, you are correct.

Prediction: Hughes will play the entire year top4.

This is HB! we do that sh1t everyday

I guess if we have the cap space, signing Hutton won't be an issue. and maybe Hughes will be sheltered a bit.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ashton Sautner over Pouliot, Sautner had a little bit of an edge to his game.

At this point I wouldn't mind seeing the ghost of Corrado, the feelings of Subban, or even Jon Garrett back there instead of PooPoo. But honestly, I'd like to see someone get a call up, even if it's Luke Schenn. But play Breisbois, he's already there.

If we could call up Schenn and if he looks good, he might have some trade value being on an expiring contract.

Worth a shot? I mean, if we could get another sweet 6th rounder for him, why not?

Edler will be resigned and if Hutton can keep this level of play up Hughes will be starting behind both of them and that is a good thing. Let him play bottom pairing with lots of PP time to start

I like being in the playoff hunt and everything, but with not expecting to go far in the playoffs, I want to see what is in the system/Utica and see JB make some moves that make sense for the future.

Sometimes players in the AHL show better in the NHL, playing in a more structured environment and with better players.

I guess I should be ready for disappointment though.

I don't know if that was the case. Obviously him being in Greens doghouse last year was a bad sign but I think a fair amount of people believed him when he said he was going to recommit over the summer.

Gotta get that PP going, it is the difference in these games. Petey scores on that breakaway the blog looks different. They were the better team for most of this road trip, keep playing this way, they look like the team before that 4 game stretch before the break.
