Since Benning has taken over the Canucks have made 3 selections in the top 2 rounds on their D. Another 2 selections were made in the third round, nothing in the 4th.
Really haven't done much to fill that cupboard, considering 2 of those top selections were last year.
In a league where Dmen take longer to develop, we've skimped at the draft instead deciding to spend those picks on stop-gap players. - golfingsince

The thing that hits home is hearing how much was offered for Edler today (if true) and the amount we are willing to spend on him for very little productivity.
We have spent good money on him and Tanev over the years and still finish in the bottom. Not to mention he wants a NMC. I hope the team goes in a different direction.
Combining Edlers upcoming 6 mil Tanevs 4.5 and Huttons 4 mil is close to 15 mil which you could sign two very useful Dmen. - VANTEL
yeah but benji asked him if he would go, so...

how many games would edler have missed if he didnt smash his face on the ice?
i think you just have to hope he'll play more games. at least injured reserve gives cap relief (right?)

me either
just hard to be upset about it not happening given the situation.
i still think he's better on the roster than off, but mostly because of the lack of options. |

I could blame the Canucks for not trying to move him last summer but not him at TDL. I respect his love of family.
I wish Canucks treated Edler as the last option after his contract, not the first option |

miller wasn't a bad signing
guddy wasn't a free agent. i know he got the contract, but it was at least dealable.
in that vein however - sutter could have been a good example, though his signing has generally tended towards the middle of the spectrum for most of the duration (its trending back towards poor now)
gagner however was never not bad, even though i get the logic

Leaving 6 mil a year playing 10 minutes a game because our GM was stupid? I wouldn't leave either. |

Exactly. This team has gaping holes all over the roster, which has been the issue all along. Holding onto "role players" like Granlund and Eriksson is a recipe for failure as proven by another mediocre season. Sure injuries take their toll, but the lifeless play on display today is symptomatic of a larger, deeper issue. - Slip and slap

Reading on TSN about the game, came across this:
Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom was the main reason the Canucks lost by only three as he stopped 45 shots. Markstrom, who is tied for 10th in the league in wins (23), dropped to 15-10-5 since Dec. 6 with a save percentage of .926 in that span. Markstrom has allowed five goals on 93 shots in his last two starts.
That .926 save percentage would be tied for 6th in the league. For all those pointing towards Marky this season... he's definitely playing like a number one goalie right now. |

Maybe he will develop an allergy to his equipment, like hoses. |

Benning is another tough spot again - Nucker101
He'll be in a even tougher spot if he plays hughes more than 9 games.
If does that........... |

It would be intersting to of seen what the conversation was considering Edlers comments on it.
Context is everything but it doesn't sound like the calgary offer or any other that was rumored ever got off the ground.
Edler on TDL and waiving his NTC.
“We never got that far,” he said.
“The plan for me was to try and figure something out to stay here. I was out with a concussion so I didn’t think about (a trade) too much.
“I just didn’t … I wanted to stay here and I am still confident we can figure it out.” |

I know he's a checker but 1M per goal is not gonna look good, Gaunce can give you that at 1M cap hit |

No Gaunce sucks too. Soft on the hitting , can't score, will watch his line mates get nailed. Keep him down on Utica. |
