Not sure what overpaying for scrubs has to do with paying off development wise lol. If overpaying stopgap players somehow aided development then the Oilers would've been cup contenders this year after the overpaying Chia has done since taking over.

They'll be jerseys on the ice and a lot of empty seats if it gets that bad. The Oilers fanbase is loyal as (frank), still show up to games despite being the league's laughing stock for a decade.
