Ya 3rd pairing for sure. I'm not sold on top4 for either, but If I either it's definetly Stecher. Quietly become quite solid back there. He plays better away from Hutton, as do every dman on the team. Hutton may get there though, I'm seeing flashes of a much better player than I thought. Solid third pair, I'd get Edler back. plus a UFA and Hughes. that would go a long way I think for us and actaully provide some depth for once. - neem55
I would have no problem keeping Stecher Hughes and Sautner next year and changing all the rest. |

they do this every year don't they? go on an epic losing streak. but fear not, there will be a 3 game win streak within the last 5 games of the year to hurt their %'s for the lottery. - storm88
I honestly think they've played better down the stretch. just under .500 is going to disappoint many here but Tanev out and everyone playing for playoff spots, it is tough to win right now. They are at least in many of the games. Not tonight or the other night, but still. Most. |

I'm actually pretty much right on board with this. Edler and Tanev are hard to move on from. But Tanev will have high rental value so unless he re signs cheap you kind of have to ship him out. Edler I could go either way. might be a year too early to get rid of both, but I like the sentiment of at the very least thinking about replacing of hutton, pou, biega and one of tanev or Edler with UFA's and young guys. |

That is the part that pisses me off Juolevi was suppose to be that guy and as far as I am concerned that is a waste of a 5 th overall pick. Players that are ready 4 years later are second round picks - VANTEL

The thing that hits home is hearing how much was offered for Edler today (if true) and the amount we are willing to spend on him for very little productivity.
We have spent good money on him and Tanev over the years and still finish in the bottom. Not to mention he wants a NMC. I hope the team goes in a different direction.
Combining Edlers upcoming 6 mil Tanevs 4.5 and Huttons 4 mil is close to 15 mil which you could sign two very useful Dmen. |

How does a team that didn't exist 2 years ago go to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first year and contend again the next year on a team filled with throw away players?
Meanwhile we go through 50 years of - VANTEL
mismanaged, to many reclamation projects, trying to turn someone into something thier not. God this game was bad, I watched 2 periods and went out and chopped some wood with some extra muscle. |

Schenn had 8 hits today. While he's not going to move the needle points wise, that's a solid outing for a physical d-man. I'd be fine with him as a third pairing player.

He's not bad when on a low profile role. Can't say the same for Guddy. |

Not much JB can do about him saying no to moving. Edler and Tanev are both far and away are most productive guys though. Injury is the biggest issue there, so adding depth and more healthy young guys would be great.

True, but he did say he was not approached with an offer. |

If I remember correctly there was a collective gasp when Benning announced OJ. No matter what the dummies were predicting it was not a popular choice . I believe most thought we would take one of Matthew Tkachuk or Sergachev. |

true. now we hope he is a 3/4. 2 years of injuries have really set him back. EP wasn't a popular pick either. but we saw that coming. |

I will go back to a popular quote I use often. Being the best apple of the bunch of rotten apples does not make you a good apple.
If Edler is your top Dman again for the next three years then what results do you expect would get better?

Edler wasn't? JB said the opposite, he approached Edler with a few offers and he didn't want to waive. Again, not much you can do there. |

EP was sort of expected and not a bad decision. We knew for a month or two Canucks were leaning towards Petey.

Schenn knows what he's doing out there. Gudbranson needed to be babysat far too often. Once Letang and Dumulion (sp) return from injury, Gudbranson will be sitting some, er most, games. |

As long as you add better players around him, yes. I think replacing Pou with QH, for example, automatically makes the d overall better. Similarly replacing Hutton wiht Trouba makes our top4 much, much better. And yeah having a top 4 of Edler, Tanev, Trouba and QH, moving Hutton and Stech to bottom pair makes us a WAY better d corp witsh some actual depth to work with and we only had to acquire one player. I won't be on here making a fuss regardless of what happens with Edler, I'm just saying. Tanev I don't think is going anywhere until next TDL, but I suspect they give him a new deal if I'm being honest. |

Its going to take years for these young guys to get used to the travel and schedule, sedins took 5 years, so now its back to back wed thurs with some travel then back for sat game at home. College and euro players play weekends and 40 game seasons. |

There is a big gap between this team and the Knights. While the Canucks can't compete, I didnt like how they hung Markstrom out like that. Would like to see the coach dial up the compete on his players. With all the injuries its going to be tough, but let's at least see a team who competes hard, hard on the forecheck, hard on pucks, hard along the boards, gets the net etc.
