Justin Lowe: Hawks’ Formula Works Again
“Ok guys, listen up… I know we’re terrible defensively – especially you Gus – but let’s just try to stick to the plan… score more goals than the other team.” Jeremy Colliton probably.
I’m joking obviously, but seriously that has to be this team’s mentality on most nights.
Sure, there were times during the Joel Quenneville era that the Hawks played a little “run-and-gun” type wild hockey but you know deep down that those teams had it in the them to dial it up DEFENSIVELY.

i agree...the hawks are first in most metrics that are bad defensively...
50 out of 67 games they have given up 3 or more goals... |

If we are in full audition mode, I’d prefer if they were auditioning on the basis of defensive play. JC should challenge this team to record some shutouts before the season ends even if it means sacrificing offensive output. Just to see who can tighten it up when asked to. At this point I’d be happier to see them lose 1-0 than to see them win 5-4. |

This offseason the HAWKS should sign Panarin then ink Mike Smith .Can you imagine the offence and with Smity back their feeding pass out the D man would hardly have to come back past the blue line .. All offence all the time the new NHL is born and HAWKS are ahead of the curve |

I can't see how this wouldn't work. |

I didn't get to respond last night to your message. Thank you, it meant a lot to me!
On another note, Elbows, "Yeaster" was funny, the rest of it was not! Bogie, I didn't know that you told me, I didn't know you were impersonating Duffy. Again, I say, you were close, haha!
TC, great blog, as usual! I think this is women's month! Nice end to the blog & a lot of respect! |

Wish we could see Carlson up here for a few games, we can carry over 23 players as long as we don't go over the cap, But then again for Icehog players what is better?
Playing major minutes or getting 10 minutes up with Hawks? I agree # 56 is so poor in his own zone , hopefully he is gone this summer! |

It’s too bad we need a Women’s Month - and a Day - to honor 50% (+/-) of our population - but - let’s ALSO honor the women:
Hockey PLAYERS
Senators and Congresswomen (and, possibly - hopefully - President in the near future)
Those beginning STEM careers
Single Mothers trying desperately to raise families without much help
Everyday workers
...
Gaining more influence and power and who WILL help correct the problems my 50% (+/-) have created in the world |

Question for all you sports gamblers out there. I heard on WGN Radio this morning that the Hawks have covered the over in 23 of their last 24 games.
That begs 2 questions.
Is it true?

Perhaps one day we won't need a day to honour anyone who is a minority, for any reason. Maybe one day we'll grow out of our infantcy and treat everyone with equal respect. I won't hold my breath but it could happen. |

How would you like to be a Jackets fan right now?
Mortgage the future at the TDL. Scoring dries up thereafter. Tough schedule ahead. Good chance that your team does not make the playoffs. Half of your team potentially walks off July 1. |

This and agree 100%.
I wonder if Sikura will be sent back to Rockford and Johnson get another crack at the bottom 6. He hasn't been impressive at the NHL level so far this season but Johnson has played well in Rockford. |

I find it funny. If I had to think of a bright side to their situation, it would be they didn't lose all of their picks. Some of the picks they traded were contingent on players re-signing. I don't know the year or the round, but I suspect they will be getting some back. They will be later picks in a crapshoot, they need to select home runs every time. |

The lunacy of identity politics and the comfort of perpetual victim hood. The eternal search for validation and the sad investment in a false premise that robs so many individuals of fulfilling their God given potential. Falsely project on others what you believe they think or feel and use that as justification to blame them for your inability to fulfill your human potential. A sad psychosis.

Picks aside, look at the stats for the players involved in Columbus' trades:
Columbus
Dzingel 6 games 0G 2A
Duchene 8 games 1G 2A
Ottawa
Duclair 7 games 2G 2A |

I know the stats are bad, and I agreed with your points. I was just addressing your mortgaging the future and half the team walks comments. |

Yes they left themselves with a 3rd and 7th pick in the upcoming draft. |

Columbus definitely took a risk, but it's one I think they had to make. All they really gave up was a few draft picks and some unproven NHL talent or prospects.
If it looks like some of the pending UFAs won't sign they can flip them for draft picks before July 1. Although they won't be great draft picks.
At least the Jackets showed their fan base they are serious about winning and they are willing to go all-in. |
