Was it just me or did Nylander not look like a kid who was just called up to the big club and was busting his ass for a spot, chance to prove him self? The complete opposite |

Regardless of whether or not we HAD to trade Kane & ROR...
Just “replacing” them and NOT ADDING is
100% EXACTLY what i warned about with our offense this year
And it’s a pretty huge reason why we are where we are - jdfitz77
YES. Just like off a scorer for top picks that are 3-4 years away. |

I expected more from casey, tage and sobotka
if they put up 45, 40 and 30 points, it might have been different
they all flamed out after the win streak |

If Skinner does get his big pay day I just hope you are right and he continues to score 35-40 from ages 27-33 or else you can add him to the list of overpaid players the Sabres have signed over the past few years. I’m not saying he’ll decline as much as Okposo or Moulson, but once the goal scoring well dries up, he won’t provide the value we’ll be paying him. The cup contenders this year are maximizing every dollar of cap space they have. That is the trend with every cup winner or cup contender over the past several seasons. I like Skinner, just not at $9M+ when he’s 30 years old for the same reason I was happy we moved on from ROR and that contract. We are 2-3 years away from “contender” status at best. - Pegullaville
If he takes a decline,
then it’s gonna suck just as much to have him at 8mil per
If u wanna look at it as him being on the decline by the time we are contenders...
then u could use that as a reason to not sign him at all (or ever traded for him)
But the more we trade away / lose the guys like Kane, ROR, Skinner...
the longer it’s gonna take to get to the “contender” status u keep talking about |

I’m hearing it was the #NYFootballGiants who contacted the #Bills to gauge their interest in OBJ. Not the other way around.

Only excuse I have for this is this was another stealth tank. They added Skinner at the end of the offseason to give the players hope that the team was trying to win this year and gave the fan base and media another thing to chew on. Only to know we weren’t ready just yet and the chips were going to fall where they may. - Pegullaville
Wouldn’t the tank be better served by never getting Skinner in the first place? Take away Jeff’s goals, replace him with Nylander or Smith or whoever and we’re rocking and rolling in 31st again.
I think it’s overly optimistic to view this season as another genius stroke of Botts’ master plan going exactly as he envisioned it. |

I don’t think u trade for Skinner & Sheary if they’re stealth tanking though
Doesn’t really make sense |

casey, dahlin, skinner, tage, sheary, hutton
and a wiser coach in year 2
expectations were to compete for the playoffs |

Once we have some depth, Sheary is a 3,4 line guy. He would be a solid 3rd liner on most teams |

You off them when you have replacements , otherwise you are searching for the=ose types of player hoping to get better ones , . better chance playing the Lotto for a month. |

Regardless... it is what it is at this point...
I’m just referencing that in terms of what happens NOW with Skinner
We already have to ADD SCORING
If we lose him,
then we have to REPLACE and we have to ADD
I think it’s harder to do that than some others |

That’s what i was thinking too
I figured we’d still end up short of the playoffs
Guys that met/exceeded expectations
*imo, of course
Jack, Sam, Skinner, Dahlin, Larsson, Girgensons, Pominville
A few others like Hutton, Bogo, Risto, Sheary & McCabe have been both good & bad this year
I think those guys were all close to expectations overall
The biggest letdown... BY FAR...
was lack of scoring from lines 2 & 3
That killed us |

Yep, agreed
ROR was traded a year (at least) too early
Kane... we waited too long to trade probably
Skinner... let’s hope we can keep him around on a reasonable deal |
