Obviously there’s a better chance the guy picked at 8 will be better than the guy picked 12th

But the margin isn’t nearly big enough,
nor is the guy we are getting in either spot talented enough,

Only excuse I have for this is this was another stealth tank. They added Skinner at the end of the offseason to give the players hope that the team was trying to win this year and gave the fan base and media another thing to chew on. Only to know we weren’t ready just yet and the chips were going to fall where they may.

Ugh

Wouldn’t the tank be better served by never getting Skinner in the first place? Take away Jeff’s goals, replace him with Nylander or Smith or whoever and we’re rocking and rolling in 31st again.
I think it’s overly optimistic to view this season as another genius stroke of Botts’ master plan going exactly as he envisioned it.

Its like taking the lead on a straightaway and then crashing into the wall with no contact and blaming the car behind you for the crash, while also having your fans insist the crash was done on purpose to drive a different car across the finish line.

I'm sure we signed skinner when he was on pace for 55 goals this season. Probably 8 x 9 million

Right before the injury and 12 game goal draught.

Now hes on pace for 40ish

Just waiting to announce the signing until the day before the season ticket renewal gets sent out.

I mean we moved E.Kane and ROR and I’m sure Botts hoped that Berglund could take some of the load off Mitts but that obviously didn’t come to fruition. The Skinner deal was very good value for what we gave up, but apart from that trade, Botts did nothing to signify this was playoffs or bust. I don’t think moving a conditional 4th for Sheary and Hunwick was a trade that signifies anything other then having NHL bodies to keep guys like Olofsson, Asplund, Nylander developing in Rochester. It wasn’t a stealth tank, sure as heck wasn’t going for broke either like the CBJ’s. Make of it what you wish I guess. However Botts didn’t make any panic moves to add to the flawed roster for an attempted playoff push when he had the chance

No they did not. I might be going out on a limb here but perhaps they are hoping he gets invited to go play for the U.S at the World Championships.

Mitts looks gassed. It may be that the last thing in the world he wants is to play more games. 82 games in a season is sort of an absurd number.
