Not disputing the inconsistency, but he's probably a 35-40 goal player with a quality center.
I agree that scoring 35-40 isn't his norm, even though he's done it before, but having a quality center isn't a norm for him either.

This is most likely how the contract negotiations are going and as long as he and his agent are reasonable, he will be paid accordingly. Most likely like a 30-ish goal scorer who has the potential to crack 40 occasionally.

That's fair. I think he should have a bit taken off because he doesn't possess the puck like a lot of 30 goal guys can, but in it's essence you got it.
It's pretty great, yes, and I'm not disputing that.
More that it probably won't be the norm for him, because it's never been the norm for him.
Just like the 12 game goalless drought doesn't mean he sucks. He doesn't, and he'll go back to putting them in the net shortly I'm sure. - BINGO!

He's got 13 games to score 4 more goals to reach 40. doesn't seem like a problem to me either. He might not do it every year, he might do better here or there. Regardless, the Sabres need him and like, another 1/2 of a roster.

Sucks that both the Jets and Browns really improved as well over the past couple of days. Figures. We gave a great start to FA for once, and then so do the Jets and friggin Browns. I used to say (all the time !) "We'll, at least we're not the Jets/Browns". Probably can't use that one anymore. - kritter65
