Take a quick look at the 2017/18 roster vs. The 2018/19 roster. He improved the team at almost every position.
Dahlin
Skinner
Sheary - Boss34
Dahlin was a no brainer draft pick,
why is Botts getting credit for that?
Skinner replaces Kane- improvement
But Mitts hasn’t even come close to replacing ROR, and Berglund didn’t even come close to being effective in a 2C role
Sheary was only good with Jack,
he’s been meh for the most part without
Bottom line,
We needed MORE (a lot more really) scoring from last year
And all we did was replace what we lost
Goaltending has been a little better overall,
but not enough to make much of a difference (obviously)
While the roster looks better...
no Nolan, Criscuolo, etc
There’s still a lot here that just hasn’t worked

I give Botts credit for Dahlin because he didn’t come into a new team and make any alarming trades. We could have traded that first rounder to “win now” so to speak. Instead he lets the cards fall where they may, and also doesn’t have anyone go into the room where the lottery takes place and perhaps that changed our luck.
FYI, all but 2 games on every team’s schedule is pre determined from now to eternity or until the league changes the schedule policy. Isn’t Lindsay injured? Sounds like there are holes in your Broncos fandom boat to me. Better start bailing. Become a Bills fan now and avoid the rush. - Hatboro_Swords
Lindsay will be just fine. Bills will be better as well but I’ll believe it when I see it. The Bills wouldn’t be the first team that supposedly “won free agency” to fall flat on their face. Remember the dream team Eagles ?

Of course I do. Who is saying the Bills won free agency?

There won’t be any rush to the Bills bandwagon. We have to be one of the most insignificant teams in the league. Unless we’re talking tailgate.

Still was luck to win that pick
Just as easily could’ve finished 2nd last & not won the lotto
Also... if Phil is the MAJOR problem...
isn’t that on Botts as well?
Botts has made some nice moves
But he’s also made some obvious blunders
Expecting Berglund- a 3rd line LW-
a guy StL moved to wing bc they didn’t like him at Center...
to come in here and hold down the fort at 2C was an epic failure
And a really, really stupid idea
His moves set us up to have a lack of secondary scoring this year
There’s no denying that
Will it end up working out?
We’ll see
But Botts’ plan for this season has been nothing short of a huge disappointment

Regressing as the year goes on is the most disappointing. You or anyone else trying to play it safe can say you didn’t expect them to make the playoffs at the beginning of the year, but that isn’t really saying much because I imagine you would’ve figured to see noticeable improvement as the season went on.

That offer could have also been the best offer Botts had on the table. Jeremy White’s super secret sabres source said we were apparently shopping ROR even at the deadline that year.
Homie mentioned the split in the locker room and I heard that as well from a few other people. ROR had one foot out the door whether we liked it or not. Skinner only brought back a 2nd rounder at the end of the day.

That’s fair
And like I’ve said, Phil is PART of the blame
Just not ALL of it
I think ppl are just going too far with the hate on him

I agree. I just can’t stand 78 points a year after over achieving and losing Eichel to start got the last GM/coach fired, but these guys get a free pass. It’s maddening to me.

Botts couldn’t have done anything else to bring in more scoring or get a different option for 2C?
Skinner- great
Sheary- meh
Berglund- horrible
Tage- disappointing
Sobatka- pretty bad
1 for 5 by my count
1 for 6 if u include counting on Mitts for offensive help
This isn’t about ROR or Kane
It about how all he ended up doing was REPLACING their scoring and the moves he made to actually IMPROVE SCORING...
they FAILED
They failed big time

To replace them though he would have to have moved out a ton of assets to acquire them. Botts wanted to acquire as many assets as possible as Murray went out spending them like it was candy without getting us anywhere.

What do u mean by “free pass” here?
I get that u love GMTM for some reason,
but just about EVERY move he made ended up not working out
It’s nuts how u continue to deny that
Botts is still cleaning up that mess to a degree
Also...
GMTM was here for 3 years before getting fired
Botts hasn’t even finished year2 yet

This is a great point. It’s like the plan failed and he couldn’t figure out what to do about it. They should’ve brought in Duchene or someone to play 2C when Berglund left. It felt like they were a lock for the playoffs.

Regardless...
Homie has said the plan this year was to compete for the playoffs,
Not “stealth tank”
I believe that
In that regard, it’s been a total failure
And a big part of it has been the guys that Botts put here for Phil
Botts absolutely has to own some of the blame here
