What do u mean by “free pass” here?
I get that u love GMTM for some reason,
but just about EVERY move he made ended up not working out
It’s nuts how u continue to deny that
Botts is still cleaning up that mess to a degree
Also...
GMTM was here for 3 years before getting fired
Botts hasn’t even finished year2 yet
Your bias for GMTM is really showing again - jdfitz77
Botts walked into a gold mine. Having a miserable season with no consequences then getting Dahlin was icing on the cake. He should be fired. |

This is a great point. It’s like the plan failed and he couldn’t figure out what to do about it. They should’ve brought in Duchene or someone to play 2C when Berglund left. It felt like they were a lock for the playoffs. - Hatboro_Swords
I blame him more for thinking that Berglund could play 2C effectively to begin with
Trades during the season, esp early, are usually hard to make
Also,
I definitely would not have traded the assets it would’ve taken to get a rental like Duchene- even if it was early on |

How can u possibly say this roster was a gold mine?
That’s utterly ridiculous
Go ahead & look at the roster the last year of Murray
Good grief |

If Murray should’ve got season 4,
why shouldn’t Botts even get season 3?
Your bias for Murray is overwhelming
Seriously,
does he even have a job yet somewhere? |

I agree. I just can’t stand 78 points a year after over achieving and losing Eichel to start got the last GM/coach fired, but these guys get a free pass. It’s maddening to me. - Hatboro_Swords
Oh it’s a majority on the roster and players.
But you can’t convince me Housley has made good personnel decisions |

Is this serious? He inherited Moulson/Okposo/Bogo contracts, had Kane on an expiring contract, had 0 organizational depth, had a poor Rochester team, had to find a coach. Had a goalie with substance abuse issues who needed a contract
I mean, come on |

Tyrod got traded for a 3rd rounder (first pick in the 3rd mind you)
I am not sure what Elway is doing - Stripes77
I thought we were going to cut tyrod.
That 3rd must have had some hue jackson surrounding it. |

Botts couldn’t have done anything else to bring in more scoring or get a different option for 2C?
Skinner- great
Sheary- meh
Berglund- horrible
Tage- disappointing
Sobatka- pretty bad
1 for 5 by my count
1 for 6 if u include counting on Mitts for offensive help
This isn’t about ROR or Kane
It about how all he ended up doing was REPLACING their scoring and the moves he made to actually IMPROVE SCORING...
they FAILED
They failed big time - jdfitz77
Jbotts improved most of those positions, which wasnt saying much.
Pouliot
Nolan
Chisto
Antipin
Baptiste
Jospensson
Griffith
Faulk
Gorges
Moulson
Sabres lehner
Chad Ochoa
No name a few.
Ror is the only downgrade I can think of.
All the core guys have put up better numbers

Regardless...
Homie has said the plan this year was to compete for the playoffs,
Not “stealth tank”
I believe that
In that regard, it’s been a total failure
And a big part of it has been the guys that Botts put here for Phil
Botts absolutely has to own some of the blame here - jdfitz77

Why would they fire jbotts before the draft?
After less then 2 seasons?
He seems to have drafted pretty good so far? |

He inherited Eichel.
I don’t think JB is blameless at all for this year.
I just think we’re closer than the standings show.
It’s a big offseason. |

JB's plan is obvious. He traded RoR and Kane for 2019 1sts and took on cap dumps to improve the team long term. His priority was not on this season.
I expected a stronger second half and a stronger contributions from some prospects, but it seems that a lot of the Amerks are just 23/24 year old depth players.

It would really help if Nylander turned out.
I expect Asplund to be a solid NHL’er.
Not 100% sold on Borgen yet |

Yeah, for as successful as the Amerks appear, who on that roster is going to make an impact on the Sabres?
As you say, hopefully Asplund, perhaps Borgen, I guess Smith might have a shot, after that it’s longshots and lottery tickets for the most part.
Their success seems due to thirty-something year old vets, who couldn’t make it in the nhl, dominating kids. |

Smith, Asplund and Olofsson can hopefully upgrade some of the bottom 9.
We’re going to sign or trade for a top 6 fwd IMO |

I forgot Olo somehow. A trade for a top 6 would most likely have to involve Risto, our 2019 1st, or something else we’d not want to think about. Let’s hope other GMs don’t see Risto like you do or else the return will be paltry indeed.
To sign one, were most likely looking at big numbers of both term and salary. |

Asplund is on a different track than the majority of the others. The inability to take advantage of their opportunities is troubling, and has been for years. Casey Nelson and ERod have their feel-good stories, but they simply have to draft and develop better.
I think JB knew the current crop of prospects wasn't that good and definitely wasn't ready to contribute. If he did, then not being more aggressive makes all the sense in the world.
