Yeah, no.
I'm pretty sure that guys that can't get the puck out in regular season and get caved in still get caved in any other time.
So goofy. - burn
he can hook/hold more and get away with more crosschecks in front of the net i guess. doesn't help him make a clean pass though which is his biggest issue. |

Exactly. Doesn't help him get out of the zone. If you're spending all your time in your own zone then you suck |

Yup. Sparks deserved a shot after his great season in the AHL. Unfortunately he hasn't been impressive this year with the Leafs. I'm honestly pretty surprised he was already given an extension for next year. I guess the Leafs brain trust have more faith in him than we do.
As for Polak, I wouldn't have minded keeping him and he isn't too expensive (1.1m), but he'd probably be a healthy scratch when most of our players are healthy. I really wouldn't have minded them bringing him back though. At least in the playoffs he might've been useful to bring a bit of physicality.
When everyone is healthy, scratch Zaits or Gards when you want more toughness and play the Polak. He's fairly slow, but at least he doesn't forget how to play defense every second shift, so he'd probably defend at least as well as either of those two. Then just let his partner carry out the puck.
Partner him with Dermott and you'd have a decent pairing that can hit, defend, and Dermott is pretty good with the puck. - Thecakeisalie
Sparks got a one year extension on the cheap. Dubas is smart. He’s protecting an asset. You can’t trade him if he doesn’t have a contract.

Tampa Bay went down 3-0 to Detroit than woke up and came back to win 5-4.
All that talent up front and can’t start on time, fire Cooper! - Blazed
Jesus.
go to bed.

Good try though

the leafs spend a lot of time in their own zone.

I’m sure glad none of you guys are running the Leafs lol. I think Shanny, Dubas and Babs are doing great and I wouldn’t second guess them. Just saying... - TOGENIUS
Cool.

I didn't say we should scratch gards for polak, but we should scratch gards for polak.
Way to hockeybuzz it all up. - burn
Do you have a reading comprehension issue?
In the playoffs, in certain games if Babs wants/needs more physicality. I also suggested switching him with Zaitsev, which you also repeatedly ignored, because it doesn't fit your lame ass troll job.
I even said in my very first post, if we'd kept Polak, he'd probably be mostly a healthy scratch, but you ignored this too.
You act like I just flat out said to just replace Gards with Polak right now and forever. I said nothing of the sort, but clearly you can't comprehend complex ideas. |

Brian Burke on PrimeTime Sports: "I think Nylander is gone at the end of the year, I think he's played his last game as a Toronto Maple Leaf this spring. I think Jake's (Gardiner) gone, and I think, ok Jake's gone, who's going to play those minutes? Who they going to get?" #Leafs
I would be shocked if Dubas traded Nylander. Outside of some stupid overpay by a team, there is no way Dubas moves him.
I cant see it at all. |

Not sure why there is no way he moves him?
Its crunch time for the leafs and their cap, maybe in order to get both kap and johnsson signed and bring in a dman, willie is moved. Maybe he wants Gardiner back.
Dunno.
But its not far fetched.
Or he moves out one of kap or johnsson.
Brown is likely out.
But something else will have to give.

I think that Leafs will keep Nylander if they get past Bruins in round 1.
Personally I still think they should consider trading Nylander for a different type of leftwinger to play with Matthews and Kapanen.
If Leafs lose again in round 1, I assume Dubas understands he needs to make more than a few slight changes this offseason. |
