I guess Talbot has looked poor in practice? Elliot hasn’t really had an amazing game in a while now. |

Can I offer the 3 of you who still thought this team was making the playoffs an egg in this trying time? |

The officiating was awful yesterday (actually, the reffing was awful but the linesmen were fine). Had very little to do with why the Flyers lost. Bill Meltzer
I never even implied it was why they lost. ??
It had an impact and deserved to be addressed. Writers are the only ones who are not under the control of the Empire...or so I thought. |

Yes, clearly, Bill has never ever criticized the NHL or officials in any way. Well done, super sleuth. |

Actually, optimism should be applauded, not ridiculed. |

I’ll feel a lot better when I see that “e” next to the bj’s in the standings. |

Regardless of where we finish I have a feeling for some reason they're going to go all in and move up in this draft. Maybe not Hughes but top 5. Just a hunch. |

Better than who? Depends on how well you scout. |

Speaking of which, my fury still has not subsided regarding Pryor being fired as well. Im not sure as to the composition and talent of the scouting staff. fletcher's record in Minny doesnt excite me. What is your handle on the situation? |

1) A game preview is not the place to discuss the officiating from the previous game. I commented on it plenty over on Twitter yesterday.
2) I assist Paul Stewart on the editing of his blogs here at HB and assisted him on his book. He is very straightforward about what he regards as issues in the recruitment, retention and coaching of officials as well as areas of rule book vagueness/discrepancies plus matters of league discipline. While these are Paul's views and his words (I just help tighten up some of the organizational and presentation of it in blog form), I do feel like I have some degree of involvement in his pursuit of a higher standard. As a U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer and the only American who has both played and refereed in the NHL, his views carry more weight than my own ever could. I also know some other former and current NHL officials to varying degrees, although not as well as I know Stewy. Proud to call him a friend. |

Sarge was collateral damage. Hexy tightened his inner circle significantly. So when the GM went, his assistant almost HAD to go, too, even though he predated Hexy's GM tenure within the organization. I hated to see it happen, but I understood it.
I think Fletcher/Flahr drafted pretty decently in Minnesota. I don't know Brent yet. Seems like a good guy who knows his stuff thoroughly. Only met him very briefly. I will get to know him a little better over the summer when we do our annual summer series of prospect pieces following and after the draft.

Then you'd rather have drafted 4th or 5th since no team in the NHL was taking anyone other than Hischier and Patrick (in whatever order) that year, and Heiskanen emerged within most top-three candidate lists, too. |

just saying if we lost a few more games in the year of the Morin draft we could have had Risto or even Jones |
