NBCsports had a Top10 show on Euro born players
Pretty interesting list

Honorable mention:
Lundqvist, Karlsson

10- Forsberg
9- Salming
8- Federov
7- Sundin
6- Kurri
5- Hasek
4- Ovechkin
3- Selanne
2- Lidstrom
1- Jagr

Some really good players left off,
but idk who you’d remove from the list
Bure should’ve at least got honorable mention imo
Malkin, Alfredsson, Datsyuk & Zetterberg too

I’m sure there’s some older guys I’m forgetting too

Datsyuk > half this list

Half?
Idk about that...

But yeah, tough to not see him on this list

Who’s the first you’d take off?

How good is Kurri minus Gretzky? Still good, but not top 10. Salming comes off as well. Bure is definitely in. Have an octopus pick from Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

since the 10 game win streak

sabres
14-29-7

35 points in 50 games

this is on par for a 56 point regular season

as good as we were before drafting eichel and sam

that bad

- homiedclown

But it’s not the coach......

That Kurri argument is tough for me
You’re probably right
But then don’t u also have to apply it to:
Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lidstrom
Federov had Yzerman, Shanahan & others too
Forsberg had Sakic and a bunch of others

I guess u probably couldn’t be wrong on who u put in the Top10
And there’d always be arguments for the ones left out too

He put up 100+ points and won a cup after Gretzky. He was a great player.

He had one good year without Gretzky before Messier really came into his own. Messier had 36 more points in the year they won the Cup.

Bure did it by himself, the best players he played with were Cliff Ronning and Geoff Courtnell in Vancouver and a mostly shot Mogilny and an ancient Messier. And in Florida laughable talent. In 00-01 he had 55 more points than the next closest player. 92 to 37. 59 goals and the next closest was 14, 33 assists and then next closest 24. Bure is 3rd in goals per game in the modern NHL behind only Bossy and Lemieux.

Yes, Kurri was a great player, but he's not a HOFer without Gretzky. He's a Seguin, great player, never was The Guy.

You make it sound like he barely made it in. He's one of the best RW's ever.

I see a lot of Ryan Getzlaf in Kirby Dach’s game. He is one prospect though I haven’t heard much of in quite some time as he was ranked in the top 5 before the season started. I’m thinking he’s starting to drop due to his foot speed.

Cozens is a beast. Probably the best skater in the draft and he’s got a power forward frame. There is nobody that comes to mind in terms of NHL comparisons at the moment but he has a good shot and looks the part of a 1st line player at the NHL level.

Podkolzin is the Russian Brad Marchand. Looks like a superstar when playing peers his own age group and has made quite a few enemies at U18 tournaments due to his bite and snarl. However his club play back in Russia has left a lot to be desired and he has mentioned he is in no rush to come over to NA. Could lead to a tumble in his draft stock.

Peyton Krebs is a C/LW who is carrying his Kootenany team like a current Sabre who also donned the same jersey and went 2nd overall in 2014. Krebs is a similar player to Sam, both cerebral, both playmakers, I think Krebs has a bit more footspeed then Sam however and slightly better shot.

Cole Caulfield/Arthur Kaliyev- probably the best pure goal scorers in the draft. Caulfield however is 5’6 and Kaliyev leaves a lot to be desired in every other facet of his game. These are top 10 sleeper picks along with Alex Newhook who looks like an electrifying talent out of the BCHL putting up over 2PPG. Newhook gives Cozens a run for his money in the speed department but it’s hard to gauge how good he really is playing in the BCHL, could be a Keller clone.

Thank you to you and Fitz for that. Sounds like they'll get some great talent with that pick (or better pick, since they can't win anymore)

Not as bad as I thought. Maybe it’s just in the certain moments of the series, like game 7 against the Caps last year for example, when the team desperately needs a goal and he just is nowhere to be found in the third period of that game.
- Pegullaville

I'll beat this drum until I kill a horse with it...
Washington won that series through sheer brute force.
Ovi, Oshi, our favorite Tom Wilson and about 4 others were absolute physical beasts in that series.
Yes, Stammer wasn't to be found in games 6 and 7 ... Kucherov admitted he disappeared in those games and associated it with the physicality that the Caps imposed on them.

RNH, Russell and a 3rd for Ristolainen and Sheary.

Would you?

Yes, keep Russell and the 3rd though.

Botts can preach development until he's blue in the face, but it's clear that Housley can't coach in the NHL. I'm sure he does some things well, on and off the ice, but at the end of the day, he's not doing the one thing that truly matters, and that's winning. Find a progressive mind that can actually coach.

If Sabres manage to stay in the 5 / 6 spot, I would seriously consider trading up with the 3rd team to get that pick and select Cozens.
Package our 5 / 6 and one of Tage/Smith/someone not named Asplud, Olofsson, Borgen, Samuelsson, Nylander.

Package Nylander and our 2nd 1st (Blues / Sharks) to get back into top 10

He is probably best suited for Asst Coach duties.
Handling most things related to Head Coaching is not (yet) his thingy.

Let's not absolve that absolute disaster play by those on the ice.
I'd say the split of responsibility is something like
-Bott's roster = 35%
-Housley's lineup/line combinations / in game decisions = 25%
-Player's inability to play a system / effort / accountability = 40%

We can shift the %'s around, the main point is it is a 3 headed monster.

Isn’t some accountability on Housley/Botterill though? When vets play like crap but continue to get minutes, and when call ups are not made to preserve whatever is being preserved in ROC, that’s not accountable.

I think that's what he's saying. There's accountability with every facet. You can condemn or justify each head if you will, but in the end they're all accountable.

Housley is terrible, but I think he’s the same as 50% of NHL coaches

Botterill is good, but he’s been handcuffed by the previous regime and possibly ownership in some ways. I think he deserves criticism for not adding to roster when things started going south, but in hindsight, we’re so far away I’m glad he didn’t

The players have packed it in. There was a stretch in late Jan/Feb where we were starting to play better and were just getting bad luck. Now they’re going through the motions. They dominated Jersey and barely had any legit high danger chances. Everyone, including Eichel has lost almost all interest.

Good add.
Sounds like you want to shift more of the % split to them.
Sure, as I mentioned that can happen.
And adding I the word accountable goes for all three, yes.

One bit we should consider is the impact of bringing up the youngsters from the Amerks and the impact on their elligi ability for the expansion draft, losing protection from it more specifically.
I haven't researched who that may impact on the Amerks, but read that is a consideration some GM's are paying attention to.
