there is zero chance duchene signs with the rangers, regardless of how much money they throw at him. he’s stated numerous times he wants to play for a contender (yah, yah, i know- ottawa wasn’t exactly that even last year before they lost....everyone of significance...but he also didn’t have much of a say since he demanded a trade out of colorado). the rangers are at the beginning of a rebuild; no way does matt want to go through the growing pains he’s already experienced on the avs and to a lesser extent with ottawa and now even in columbus.

look for him to sign with someone in the central, that’d be my best guess anyway. wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him in a st. louis, dallas, or even nashville jersey next season.

The Rangers are far better than their record suggests. Picking up Panarin and Duchene instantly makes them a playoff team and upgrading their defense makes them a contender.
