I think if the Devils foolishly pass on Hughes, you make the push for Caufield. Does Dallas, Jets and Lias get it done? Can be another good prospect, but I included Lias simply because we'd be taking a center in Hughes.
Don't give me the "Lias has no value" nonsense either. He's still a 7th overall pick and is an NHL regular at 20. - Bean_Dip
I think Puljujarvi is really what would set Lias value. If he isn't being moved because Edmonton is asking too much, Lias has value still. If teams don't really want to give up much for him, than I'm not sure how Lias would have a ton of trade value. |

In a straight up comp, I'd agree. If you're just shopping him, then it's better to just keep him. But by including him in a deal with two other firsts Lias is added value. |

His skill set is incredible, and really he doesn't need to be mixing it up with the way the league is now compared to when Theo played. I'm sure he has learned to avoid hits and keep his head up, because he has probably been the shortest guy in any league he played in. - mdw7413
Yeah he'd have to keep his head up, but at least he is coming in a league without dbags like Stevens skating around for the sole purpose of finding guys with their head down. |

It’s hard to envision them trading any kids they drafted or traded for any time soon. I mean they jumped through hoops to set it up this way and now to trade pieces off wouldn’t make much sense. At least not yet anyway |

I mean I get what you are saying, but in a trade to move into the top 10 then the other team is going to want pieces that movie the needle. If they perceive Lias as just a throw in, they are going to want something else. |

I think if you are looking to move up into the top ten Lias doesn't have much value. imo. Doesn't mean he doesn't have any, just not in that scenario. I'm assuming you mean if Dallas wins this series and we get their 1st?
Would I pass on Caufield for that package, probably not. |

I actually think it's more likely they trade a kid. I'm not talking about classic Rangers, but I think at some point you have to start acquiring pieces that put you over the top. Hopefully, you identify early on who you think the kids that are going to be sort of the odd man out and you can include them in packages while they still have a ton of trade value.
It may not be this season we see this happen. We can agree though getting Kakko changes everything. If somehow we sign Panarin, our window suddenly bursts open probably as soon as 20-21. I'm not trading kids for reasons, but if only a guy like Nils is in the way of getting a Marner or someone else of that ilk, you have to do the trade. |

I wonder if Edmonton would be into just getting 3 picks considering they have all world talent already, with McDavid and draisitl. They need depth and more cheaper ELC guys eventually. I think you could strike a deal with them.
Like 19-28-and the TB second. Maybe a Vesey or something like that added in. Dallas really needs to win this series tho |

I think he's far from a throw in. I guess that's my point. If you're looking to move into the top 10, that's a pretty good package all around. You get two firsts for your one, and you get a really good, young C who might turn into a staple 2/3 C.
Again, this is all based on contingencies that probably won't happen anyway |

Its really tough to say. I always try to look at it if I had the 8th overall pick and what I would want. I don't know enough about many of the players after the top 10-15. I guess if a GM sees something he likes later in the 1st round it might work. |

They just need quantity over quality imo. What’s the percentage that someone at 8, is that much better then someone at 18-19? It can’t be that much. And you get another first in that scenario.
I wonder if the rangers do something like that regardless if we’re talking Caufield or not. Personally I’d like to see them draft another Center with the other pick(s). Cozens would be nice, but that ain’t happening |

Yeah I don't know what the percentages are. I know some website had them. Thats all based on averages though, and I guess it comes down to a particular draft and the consensus of that draft.
I wouldn't mind moving up, just don't know if we would be able to crack the top 10 |

Thats because he reminds him of Nash.
I would definitely take a chance on him if he fell a little. |

They are? I haven't seen a single person do that. I've also avoided reading most things relating to this series until this morning, though. |
