To me, the difference is that Ovechkin always wanted to be on the ice scoring goals to help his team win (let's leave alone how not playing defense helped the team).
Nylander has no problem sitting at home across the ocean demanding more money which will inevitably destroy his teams chances at winning the Cup before it has to be dismantled.
THAT is the type of player we don't need. - Tonybere
Fair points but you also have to imagine that he wants/needs to get paid. Sometimes that is your only bargaining chip. I don't like it but other players have done it too (Fedorov comes to mind). I recall the public opinion being pretty poor on that one too. |

The picks are what they are, much rather have the guy here all ready to step into a prominent role and not wait for a couple second rders to develop in a few years. This can only help them and not hurt them, that’s how I’m looking at it |

Nice pickup by the Rangers, one of the benefits of a big market. |

Fox and ADA is a nice looking right side, just need to add a shutdown type guy. Lindgren/Hajek/Skjei on the left is a nice young core and Miller is a year or so away.
Need to find ways to get rid of Shatty/Pionk/Staal. I would just put Smith on the 4th line unless someone wants him. |

Just curious, if they waited a year and got him for nothing, would that change his contract status going forward?

He may have only signed a 2 year ELC instead of the standard 3-year. Essentially the Rangers paid for an extra year on an ELC as well as getting him a year earlier/eliminating anyone else from being able to dangle offers in front of him. |

I feel like they should just leave Shatty/Pionk/Staal alone. Maybe move Pionk if the return is fair.
Why not just go after Panarin, draft BPA with each pick you hold on to and let the team fill out as they will this season? Let the kids battle it out in camp to make the team and let them grow and gel throughout the year. Next season is REALLY going to be our time!!!! |

Ok, thats what I was curious about. Wasn't sure how it works when you are signing your 1st contract as a free agent who wouldn't sign with the team that picked them. |

Yeah, that was it: see below
Fox is a Feb birthday and is 21 right now, prior to Sept 15 of this year. Players 18-21 (before 9/15 of the year they sign) sign three year ELC's. Next year he'd have been 22 in Feb and would've only signed a two year ELC. |

That’s a good enough reason for me to give some assets for him. |

That plus you won't (as far as I understand) have to expose him in the expansion draft. I get the move but that seems like a little bit of a steep price to pay given that it was, seemingly, common knowledge that he was going to be a Ranger no matter what. But it's not outlandish or anything and given the pile of picks the Rangers had stacked up...it's not really a big deal. |

Completely hypothetical just to see what you guys think, and I don’t think this would ever happen just curious: let’s say the Rangers wanted to get Hank a cup and went after a guy like Malkin, are you making a trade like that if it cost you Lias, WPG 1st, Buchnevich, Lundqvist and Howden?

As a canes fan I’m more than happy with the return, I was hoping we’d be able to snag at least a 3rd from NYR as he was going there the whole time |
