EK way better then trouba, but also 3 years older and will command close to $12m. Unfortunately term, cap, age come into factor here. if there was no cap EK all day. - nyrangers2
So for 3 mill more a year, you don’t want all the stuff he brings? I’m still mind boggled. He’d be the game changer they would need. They’d be an absolute force to reckon with |

I didn't read any of the other offers, i just thought i saw a rangers fan trying to keep pionk out of a trade and thought it was dumb. Makes more sense when the person trying to keep pionk out of the trade is from WPG - picklerick

That's fair.
What's your stance on Trouba? You think he's 100% gone, do you want him to stay? |

Your argument is weak at best. Nobody is saying that EK sucks, he is great! Problem is, he will want to get PAID to a contract that we here just don't want to provide him. Wrong place, wrong team, wrong time.
NY Rangers timeline is approx. 2 more years ----- if we sign him now, he will be past his prime and his window will be closing while team door will be opening. His contract will become a huge anchor that will hold team back.
The candle that burns twice as bright only burns half as long ----- and EKs candle is shining soo brightly.
You will die on this hill, good luck! |

Quite frankly, I think you’re nuts
I get the age and years and all that I really do. He just doesn’t seem human to me. Like nothing goes wrong, he can overcome anything. He’s a special player, one like we haven’t seen in a long time. Almost Messier like.
I also think if you did add him this summer, with the kids coming they could actually make the playoffs and as we’ve seen you never know what can happen |

Absolutely! We agree. But then the last 4+ years of his contract kick in and he no longer plays like Messier, he plays like Gomez. Then what?
Cap has changed everything, this isn't the 90s anymore where we can just buy our way out of trouble... |

Without getting yelled at, is it realistic, Cap wise, to have both Panarin and EK? |

No yelling
Sure its possible, but you would have to move out Shatty, Kreider and Namestikov without taking back significant contract $$. Possible, just VERY unlikely. |

You don’t know that, that’s all I hear. Like it’s guaranteed he’ll shutdown. You can say that about any player. The only answer then is to never sign another free agent, like ever again.
If he was 35 ok yea, he’d be 29 opening night. That argument doesn’t fly with me. Even if that did happen maybe they will have one a cup or two by then. |

I’m all bark and no bite haha
They could do it some finagling. The other thing everyone brings up is these other teams are in cap hell from monster contacts, and they’re there because they give out stupid money to bad players. We have two not even that terrible contracts right now and they end soon. The key is to not sign 3-4 guys like that, we’d be home free after that. Surviving the next two years would be the issue, but it could be done
I’m also not so sure Panarin is coming either, it’s like a forgone conclusion he is coming here. If that doesn’t happen they better have a plan B |

They can't bring in a D-man with moving one out. Cause Skjei/Smith/Shattenkirk/Staal make too much money. |

If they dumped Vesey, Nam, and Fast isn’t that like 10 mill? That’s Panarin right there. Who cares if those goes even play. I guess you’d have to trade Pionk and AD |

No I'm just say for a spot. on the blue line. Let's say they do and sign ek 65 for 11.5 million.
That means you have...
EK @ 11.5
Shatty @ 6.65
Staal @ 5.7
Skjei @ 5.35
Smith @ 4.35
That is just way to much money to tie up on defense. |
