I thought it was 4 years too long but that is not a secret
The good old days. - VANTEL
I guess there was the lose them for nothing alternative. Whatever, i'll maintain until the day I die that the problem with this team for years wasn't the Sedins or Luongo : it was the supporting cast. |

At the top of any Blog is a tab for "archive". Click it... then you have a month tab going back quite a few years. Every couple of years we lose a couple years of archive though. A couple of years ago, I was able to go all the way back to Mark Gage's blogs. Now most of the Gillis' era blogs are gone... if not all by now. - boonerbuck

They actually remove the blogger from the archives, so most of Tessier's work, Ian's Gage's are all gone.
You can see all of Carol's work (2013), but Augello's dates back to when he started. |

I wonder how much they had to pay to have that history removed. |

Tessier had that Grateful Dead blog, always loved that.
Not as much as the Kings blogger's picture blog though. Matt whatever the hell his name was. |

The Sedins were classy human beings and skilled players.
Canucks owners/management have had so many layers and tiers of problems forever. The good thing is their screw ups keep keep us entertained for years

If I remember correctly he used songs to express differing sentiments about various topics at the time. |

Do you know what's funny?
Both Gillis and Quinn were 1 game away from winning it all.
Pat Quinn is considered a hero by many while Gillis is a villain.
Gillis lost his #3C a month before the playoffs, his #2C {(arguably #1) totally different player} after the 2nd round and arguably his best dman in game 1, or was it 2.
Still, a hair from winning it all. We were a non-playoff team before Gillis took over, and during his entire tenure we lacked depth to one extent or another. He never did replenish the pipeline, but there wasn't much of one before he took over and he did go for it. |

It probably has a lot to do with the fact that Quinn actuall added many good players to his roster, mostly through some good trades, while Gillis inherited the main players of his roster and struggled to add scoring depth to play with Kesler. |

Gillis added key pieces. Hamhuis, Malholtra, Samuellson to name a few.
We won the president's trophy 2 years in a row, didn't just take a long playoff run. |

Pretty insignificant compared to MacLean Adams Ronning Courtnall Dirk Momesso etc, through trade and a couple pretty decent players through the draft, in Linden and Bure.
Other than Bo, Gaunce is probably Gillis's best draft pick |

Gillis doesn't get credit for Hammer. A monkey could have signed a guy who decided he was going into UFA with only a 1 team list. |

Hodgson, K-Conn and Hutton were all better picks and I'm a Gaunce fan.
His drafting definitely sucked but he was 2 for 2 as far as top 10 picks IMO. Gillis was a Richard regarding Hodgson's medical diagnosis and looks really bad now considering what's occurred but he was still a good pick.
I agree it's an interesting comparison between Quinn and Gillis but also agree that Quinn was better. It helps that he was of the most charismatic guys to be in the game.
That said, I was pissed the way Quinn and Mcphee (frank)ed over Bure and caused him to want out.

Neither of them were very good at drafting, I just like Quinn better, because he actually had to build his team, whereas Gillis inherited his core players and couldn't get a 2nd liner for Kesler. |

Gillis tinkered with a championship calibre club...he didn't hang his balls out and get a big fish or two to really seal the deal ! |

Burke did for the Sedins. Nonis did for Luongo. These guys were major parts in that run. I guess Gillis' biggest single contribution for that run was Erroroff.

He needs to get someone this draft, either for Elias and put Brock back with Horvat and find legit 3rd wheels for those lines.
Whoever plays with Elias, as the 3rd wheel, has to provide some speed, skill and aggressiveness, as that is an ultra-soft top 2 lines. |
