If you don't draft well, the team won't do well. JB was brought in to draft well and he has and will continue too. Gillis couldn't draft and the team was going nowhere.

Yup, each had their highs and lows. Same for all the GMs in the league over the years, they have their strengths and weaknesses, and all get canned eventually.

Gilly had two top ten picks (think he nailed one), and in some years had no picks until round 4. Comparing the results is apples and bananas. After stating that he could "turn this team around in a hurry" Bennings tenure has been among the worst in the history of terrible teams. He has picked 5th twice, 6th, 7th and now 10th and he has: Petey, Virtanen, Boeser, Hughes, Demko and Gaudette. That's not exactly stellar. There could be more, we'll see...

I have no problem with Bloated expressing his opinions or stating what I believe is a fact, in this case, not sure why you are getting your knickers in a knot.

I call that trade a big win. Kesler got Sutter and Pearson so far. Vegas taking Sbisa and not Gaunce. Kesler's contract a massive hinderance to Anaheim now and the rebuild would have started even later. Another win for Benning

I dont know man, Gillis highest pick outside of Cody Hodgson was 22nd overall where he drafted Jordan Schroeder, who, to be fair, was ranked in the top 10 all season and for some reason, which we know now, he slid far.....

But hindsight is 20/20 right? One year Gillis didnt draft until the 4th round.

Dave Nonis didnt exactly light up the draft board either. Quite frankly, Burke was brutal. Pat Quinn was ok. Jack Gordon was horrible with gimme picks.....do we need to continue?

JB is likely the best at this point, but lets not bash Gillis over draffting when he was generally always in the 25-30 range year in, year out....

Benning has a better player at 23 than Gillis had from any of his picks in the 20's, so far Benning has better picks from the 2nd and 3rd round that Gillis had outside of the top 10. If you count Forsling than you can argue that a Benning 5th round pick is better than pretty much every pick Gillis had outside of the top 10.

It's is apples and banana's between the two. Not close at all. One is building a core through the draft and the other traded away all his picks and was terrible at drafting. Hindsight but maybe if Gillis could have drafted an NHL worthy player, Van could have won the cup.
