The difference between the two was consistency imo. Marty could string great performances together, and then completely fall apart for a couple. Miller was consistently good, but rarely great
- jcragcrumple

Career sv% .910 for Marty, .915 for Miller

But Miller had 3 seasons in the .920's (.929 career best)

Marty never had anything above .918

Miller also played in 250 more games than Marty

Marty had his chance of being a starter here and Miller won the job from him.

I would be curious to see how Marty would have held up when Lindy let the boys loose and Miller faced 3 on 1 regularly

Marty also was a 1st round draft pick that was expected to replace Hasek

My buddy was just telling me about a Thurman Thomas interview. Interesting.

Thurman said something in regards to wanting to follow the veteran rob ridd!ck everywhere and learn how to be " a pro"

Apparently Thurman learned quick that he was not the guy to learn from.

Show up to meetings 30 seconds before it started
Smoke cigarettes during half time.

We need solid pros to show these kids how to be pros.

Hopefully eichel learned from

Legwand
Pommer
Gorges

I'm a bit, OK a lot, leery of Krueger but here's an article Kevin Allen wrote about him, and besides the HC experience, he seems to check all the boxes.

Read what people say about him, read his answers to questions, the fact that he builds his systems around his players and not the other way around.

Not trying to sway anyone, just saying not to outright dismiss him.

I have no faith in either goalie moving this team forward.

That’s what defense is for And they will Address that ..

but I want a offense first coach

- gerbe75pts

Hire Boughner, LOL, he'll have all the D trying to emulate Brett Burns. Forwards flying the zone always looking for the homerun pass. Fun to watch when it clicks. Panthers set a franchise record for goals scored this season, while simultaneously setting the franchise record for goals allowed. At least it was never boring hockey....
Actually, many of the critiques I've read here about the play of Housley's Sabres were very similar to things that Boughner's Panthers would do. I've never before watched a team that was their own worst enemy as much as FL was this year. I do think the players liked playing for him, and when they actually had their game going they were very good. If Q wasn't available I don't think FL would've let him go. If Boughner can tweak some things in his "systems", or maybe in his disciplining repeated silly mistakes and poor play, he could be a good NHL coach.

I am a goaltender. I saw they are now selling jerseys with a walrus for the crest and Duncan as the name plate.

I gave away $49.95 for this nonsense and I still chuckle every time I see it.

"Noooooo sleepies"

I'm easily amused.

dougie Hamilton is playing scared and the hockey world is all over him for it...yeah, it's great to have puckmovers and offensive-type d-men and every team needs them, but they need to have the intestinal fortitude to do their jobs when the opposition is bearing down on them.

BREAKING>>>: The Buffalo Sabres have announced that their exhaustive coaching search has ended after several weeks of interviews.

They've settled on the relatively unknown Boston area coach Don 'Doc' McHallahan. McHallahan coached the area peewee 'Chelmsford Golden Eichs' for the past 15 seasons.

In the press release the Sabres Organization assured fans they've found the best candidate for the job and GM Jim Botterill would meet with the press at 4pm for a 'Rambling, circuitous and dodgy' explanation of the new hire.

Coincidentally, Jack Eichel led the 'Golden Eichs' to the Greater Boston PeeWee Barnburner Championship in 2007, where he scored 437 goals in 33 career games with the Eichs. Eichel still holds the league record for 1200 points in a single season, playing stints at forward, defense and goaltending, even reportedly making opposing 'team dads' cry in the parking lot on several occasions.

When reached for comment at his Dorchester Mass. townhouse, Coach McHallahan assured that it was "meahly ah fuhkin coincidence that I coached Eich' back in the day."
More news later as the story develops.....

As far as Hutton and Ullmark go...

they were probably playing above their means on that win streak making the big saves. Ullmark played pretty solid after that as well but not on the same level. Hutton was then hurt for a good couple weeks or almost a month and that was what grinded Ullmark down as a rookie.

Ullmark and the rest of the team down the stretch just didn't have that composure to come back from that bad goal or late goal. Hutton upon returning played at below his means and Ullmark did too. They didn't have the veteran side to them (nor the team) to band together instead of pointing.

Comparing Miller to Biron is irrelevant.

Miller has played far far longer into his bad years in order to come down to Biron's stats. Miller was still playing 45-55 games a year up until he was 36. Biron didn't play past 30 games since he was 31.

Biron was a joke at the end of his career until he was Lundqvist's backup in possibly the best defense in the NHL at that time which helped his career numbers TREMENDOUSLY. He was a 2.75-3+ GAA for 6 straight years before those 3 years in NYR where he only averaged 11 games a year. His final year he had a 7.65 GAA.

Miller had a 2.35 GAA and .928 S% last year w/ 4 shutouts as a 37 year old playing 28 games.
