You'll have to wait to find out at the end of this series.
I have 4 left... Podkolzin, Cozens, Krebs and Byram.

Agree to disagree on Kessel. Hes far from a "Cream puff".
Lets pay Brandon Saad, 6 million a year, so he can play on the 3rd line.....and lets look at what contributions he made to the PK (which was dreadful) and so on......The point is Saad has NO NTC/NMC so his value on the market and Bowman finding a willing suitor is wide open same with AA and same with Murphy.
The nostalgia factor with this fan base and ex players needs to stop. Kruger, Versteeg, Ladd, Oduya, Campbell, Sharp, and yes....even Saad have all been BUSTS when brought back on round 2. All failed to live up to their expectations, and this is why this team continues to tread water.
I don't disagree you may need help on the bottom half with a defensive minded center but this team needs a TON Of defensive help on the back end. Go listen to the podcast Eddie O just dropped. They asked him what should the Hawks look for in UFA....."Id start on the back end".....
Brandon Saad can't be counted on to produce consistently and for what he's paid hes right up there with Seabrook with horrific ROI vs what he's being paid. DUmp him while you can...... |

For fun I did, yes.
If I'm being completely honest though, I'm go and forth between a few guys still.
Not a clear cut choice in my mind. |

Does it matter? Seems this draft is a 2 horse race, and the rest are pretty much all even from what I've read online.
Take the best available player based on what your scouts are telling you. |

Realistically, I just don’t see how it’s anyone but Byram or Turcotte. I can’t physically envision Stan announcing anyone else. |

Somewhat true...BUT, exactly WHO you take at #3 is HUGE....even when the Top 2 are sure things.
Remember the Taylor/Tyler year...2009 or 2010....The Blues get Tarasenko at 15th or 16th or something. The dozen picked ahead of him were not nearly as impactful. Skinner (7th or 8th maybe) was ok...and a couple more. But, there were also 2-3 duds who hardly played in the NHL.
Make no mistake, the pick at 3 is HUGE. Could be a franchise player for the next decade....or a total bust. Sure hope our scouts don't "whiff" on this one!!! |

The issue with Saad is expectations. He was essentially our best PK forward last year and got what he should get 20-25 goals and about 50 points. That is fine for a guy who didn't get much time on PP unit one and spent a lot of time dragging around Anisimov and our underwhelming 3rd line. |

The USHL (frank)ing sucks though.
It's incredible how overrated 90% of the guys that come out of the USNTDP are. - BINGO!
Generally correct but there are some significant exceptions who are very good NHL players. I think part of the problem is "graduating" (?) to the NCAA and then playing a 30 game schedule in a fairly weak competitive environment. And then a bunch of these hot shots think they are NHL ready and don't like the idea of the AHL or ECHL. |

Hawks draft Caufield....if....Darth is sitting at the table with Stan!
![](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/lol.gif) - hawk35
I am definitely trying to get there.
Sorry to disappoint on my late comments, West coast time difference and a busy morning on the Death Star (lots of rebel scum to deal with).
I can see why people think the Hawks won't draft Caufield, although they are wrong. If we look at Kelley's comments he's more positive about Caufield than any other prospect.
It seems like people are shying away from Caufield because the Hawks already have a small goal scorer in DeBrincat. Why can't the team have two? Sure, the Hawks have other needs but there will still be a solid centre available in the second round. |
