I'm greatly disappointed that Darth wasn't the first to respond. He was probably foaming at the mouth up until the moment you said, "I don't think the hawks will draft him."

Anyways, great piece, TC!

I do think it is a bit of a reach to take him, but the main reason I think they won't is just because we have good sneaky shooters on the wings in DeBrincat and Kane. While this kid doesn't get held back by his size, I think our need up front will be for someone who can be more physically hard to contain. Toews isn't getting any younger, Hossa is long gone and the next wave of Hawks forwards will need some of those guys who are above average at NHL board battles and getting position around the net, plus have skill to do the damage. Not a knock on Caufield, just that I think the Hawks need more variety in skillset up front.

You want Caufield! And we both know why.

Caufield is like a DeBrincat clone - he even looks like the Cat. Which is to say he would be a nice pick ... but not at #3 where there is a potential #1 d-man and at least a couple potential #1 centers.

Time Zone difference

Unlikely to happen, but.....Could they draft him for someone else that desperately needs a scorer and package him with other assets for a top 4 defender maybe from a team that has cap issues?

It's incredible how overrated 90% of the guys that come out of the USNTDP are.
