Jim Benning's gonna go full Lucic on him.
....assuming he doesn't actually trade for Lucic. - BINGO!
Why not both?! All I hear from pundits is how brawn won out in these playoffs. Can have a BIG SICK LINE of

hopefully soon, I trust that Shanahan will NOT allow Dubas to put Marner on the back burner or procrastinate - LIKE HE DID WITH NYLANDER.
all the nice guy speak at the end of the season... needs to be put aside and a contract needs to get done.
I believe if Marner doesn't get done before the draft ... Dubas is putting himself at a further disadvantage.... effectively reducing his(Dubas') to make deals to fill in the rest of the roster.
I would be very happy if Dubas makes a deal prior to the draft which signals his progress on:
i) either RFA signings (Marner, Johnsson and Kapanen)
ii) the CAP alleviation front
iii) the defense core re-construction
Of course a single deal could be made which would help on severals fronts - e.g. Nylander for a defender. - BorjeFan4Ever
Marleau won't be traded till after the bonus is paid, why would any team take him before that?

I'm kinda wondering if we will ever see guys agree to a mutual termination of contract, rather than be a dead weight at the end of their careers.
Case in point: Lupul.
He was sent to Robidas Island for the final two years of his contract:
2016-17: $5.25 million salary
2017-18: $3.75 million salary
Would he not have been better off agreeing to a mutual termination of contract in the summer of 2017?
Work yourself into game shape, sign for $1.5 million somewhere on a one-way contract, and keep playing.
He had career earnings of over $50 million - why not risk $4 million and bet on yourself? - Atomic Wedgie
I dont believe he wanted to play or work that hard to play again |

Bruins (frank)ed that great trade they made so bad. Seguin and Hamilton traded by ages 21 for so little.
And Boston could have had a great young franchise piece for Hamilton with that 1st rounder and screwed that up so bad. - RogerRoeper
Well, they are back in the cup final...so i dont believe they care |

I got it from Molsons that he failed the drug test, that's why he didn't go to the NHLPA. |

Nylander gets minimum 30 goals, 70 points next season, has a shot at 80.
His shooting % was 5. Will not happen again. - RogerRoeper
Sure.
Hes never scored 30 goals at any level of hockey in his career and one willy wife has already pointed out that if we believe willie to be a scorer than we dont understand willie as a player.
Mixed signals i suppose

Nylander had his two big point seasons with Matthews. Its unlikely he'd get as good a player to play with in Carolina or Anaheim or Vancouver or wherever.
and its a reach to assume he's going to get 80 points... he wilted under the pressure and expectations this past season... after resting the first 1/3 of the season... .he could equally wilt under the pressure which will NO DOUBT be on him from the first day of camp... - BorjeFan4Ever
Lots of athletes struggle after first signing a big deal because they try to live up to the expectations.
Give him this year with a real training camp and see how he does. Nylander didn't get all of his points because of Matthews. Ignore it if it helps you feel better, but he led the World Championship in points with 18, leading guys like Kucherov, Voracek and Stone - and was 8 points better than his closest team mate.
He's a good player who we want to be good on the Leafs. |

The CBA already includes mutual termination.
Believe it or not, the Habs have used it at least four times:
Michal Moravckik:
https://www.nhl.com/canad...chal-moravcik/c-304294914
Jeremiah Addison:
https://www.nhl.com/canad...emiah-addison/c-301483508
Mark Streit:
https://www.nhl.com/canad...r-mark-streit/c-291973564
Alexander Semin:
https://www.nhl.com/news/...rminate-contract/c-791905 - Atomic Wedgie
My understanding here is that a player can contest any "mutual" termination initiated by the team. The PA should go to bat for them if the player is interested.
Guys like Mike Richards and Stoll put themselves in a bad position where the PA didn't have much to fight with, but still managed to obtain a settlement for the players. The league, meanwhile, conceded the cap for these teams.
If the player initiates it (refusing to report to the AHL, or signing a contract in a different league), then the team can mutually terminate them.
But if you have a guy who is making too much, and you're not happy with their level of production for what you're paying, it's not exactly likely the player is going to accept a mutual termination initiated by a team. |
