That's a more modern contract. Not to mention it hasn't even kicked in yet, ignores age and the increase of the cap. Seguin had a cap hit of 5.75M from 2014 - 2019 and Kessel's was 8M. Seguin had 169G, 211A, for 380pts in 389GP whereas Kessel had 135G, 229A, and 364pts in 410GP. So who again was more valuable and for 2.25M less? And still, it holds true that those were more formative years for Seguin and prime years for Kessel, where Seguin still outpaced him on a worse team sans Crosby & Malkin.

6-1 Bruins, it won't be even close, easy win for the B's
- Symba007

Definitely gonna be an easy win the Bruins tonight.. I think Binnington gets pulled after giving up 4 goals on 7 shots in the 1st period.

Then the Leafs dont get him, but it appears to be extremely likely that he will get bought it. He has a full NMC, and a large salary. What contender is taking that on who he would accept a trade to? List is pretty much zero.

This reeks of circumvention the player that gets bought out should carry his cap hit from the previous team unless new contract value is higher.

That's a full 120 days without a Championship..

They got this, Bergeron will score the 2nd of 6 goals, in a 6-1 victory.

What exactly will happen tonight?

I feel the Blues are the team of destiny here..I picked them in 7 before the series started and I am more confident now that they will indeed take home their first Stanley Cup 3-2 in OT.

How is that circumvention? The ducks arent buying him out for the Leafs That makes no sense to carry the cap hit. It literally benefits no one and screws the player over from playing again that year.

I havent seen one person report that. Who said that?

From the athletic
Perry has two more years left on his contract at an $8.625-million cap hit through 2020-21, so finding a trade partner may not be easy, even with the Ducks eating some of that contract in a potential trade.

As stated above, if a trade can’t be worked out, a buyout has also been contemplated, which would make Perry an unrestricted free agent.

It should be noted that Perry’s full no-move close gives him control over any trade but not a buyout. The NHL’s first buyout window opens June 15 and goes until June 30. There’s another buyout window in August but only for teams with salary arbitration cases.

I have no issues if Dubas trades Nylander

He knows his value and would be getting a great player back

That would force early retirement on more players.

If a player's level isn't worth $5m, but they are still worth $1m in some teams' estimations, then buying them out of the $5m contract, and allowing someone else to sign them prolongs their career.

Otherwise they end up being too expensive to sign or riding the bus in the minors to end their career.

It's not circumvention - it's beneficial to both parties.

I'm kinda wondering if we will ever see guys agree to a mutual termination of contract, rather than be a dead weight at the end of their careers.

Case in point: Lupul.

He was sent to Robidas Island for the final two years of his contract:

2016-17: $5.25 million salary
2017-18: $3.75 million salary

Would he not have been better off agreeing to a mutual termination of contract in the summer of 2017?

Work yourself into game shape, sign for $1.5 million somewhere on a one-way contract, and keep playing.

He had career earnings of over $50 million - why not risk $4 million and bet on yourself?
