Pierre McGuire said this year's draft and next year's are huge, very deep drafts, and then the following two seasons he guarantees are going to be very weak drafts
so if you believe Pierre, I think you dont worry about losing your 2021 and 2022 first rounders if you can make something big happen now |

it would be great if he could sign that before draft and the Rangers go into draft with that extra pick to talk trades |

Once again Jan, thank you for facilitating this. As the pace ramps up so does your workload. It is appreciated, despite the opinions of any drive-by posters blasting the format and/or trades. I don't follow prospects deeply enough to take part, but I sure am enjoying following along! |

It's not that I don't believe Pierre, but those draft rankings change so much. Maybe I'm using a bit of revisionist history, but wasn't the 2017 draft supposed to be deep and then of course flopped? It was't even 6 months ago that we were told this is a top heavy draft and now supposedly i's super deep. It's just so subjective. |

I was just listening to him talk about this on Sirius/XM NHL radio and they asked him, come on, how do you know already about 2021-22 and he was pretty emphatic, they forecast to be piss poor drafts |

I hope they laughed in his face for that. I mean no chance early teens can't improve, especially those in Europe/Russia they may not have been discovered yet. |

IMO the Pens only add a 1st if it’s Johnson, not Gudbranson. Gudbranson was actually fairly solid for the Pens. |

Nobody is giving up a 1st round pick for 4 more years of Jack Johnson at a 3.25 million dollar cap hit. |

more McGuire:
McGuire on TSN1050 this morning: “One GM told me, there will be offer sheets this year. I don’t know if he’s bluffing or not and he didn’t mention names, but I firmly believe there will be offer sheets and I believe Mitch Marner is one of the people that gets an offer sheet.” |

Ottawa has kind of become the rumored dumping ground for bad contracts this year. I don't think they're going to just take on bad contracts, but I think a team with the right deal will make it happen.
Ottawa is in a full rebuild, not a retool or partial rebuild. Realistically they are probably around four years away from even thinking about making a playoff run and that might even be too soon.
Someone like Jack Johnson, Zaitsev, etc... these contracts mean nothing to them in the long-run if they are got bonafide futures to cultivate their rebuild. The way this draft is looking, any 1st round pick is a very good prospect.
So, a 1st rounder and a solid depth player who potential for more? I think that's good sweetener for Jack Johnson. Don't worry though. It won't happen
EDIT:
Not to mention OTT still needs to sign five more roster players and they are quite a ways away from the cap floor, so they do need to spend and fill the roster. |

I rarely agree with McGuire, but I sure do here. I don't know that I'd even give a draft pick for him. I'd do prospect swap. |

Yakupov went for an ECHL guy and a conditional 3rd if he scored 15 goals, Jesse has 17 career NHL goals. I'm not sure I'd give a 5th for him. |

It's also hard to use the argument of him not having a chance with quality players, but if we're looking for an argument for Puljujarvi is EDM is/was still a grossly mismanaged team which for their sake is hopefully changing. |

Jack Johnson is terrible. Nobody besides GMJR is dumb enough to have him. |

Compelling argument. Also wrong. MTL was very close to signing him. Good talk.
I think you're missing the concept of a rebuild and what it can entail for future gain. |

personally, especially if the Rangers get his fellow country man Kakko, I'd like the Rangers to take a chance on him
maybe Georgi is too much, but one of the second rounders, I'd be fine with it
I don't even consider Yakupov to be a factor in it
