This is such a lazy argument. Do you have any idea how many teams have almost as much locked-up on more-yet much, much worse players? Vancouver i s supposed to be rebuilding, but now have less $ than the Leafs do on the cap and have to pay their young players.
Overpaying for bottom 6 talent is not the answer at all. Leafs have a set of established young stars who will get better. Dubas paying 700K for Spezzza is so much better than the crap 3-5 million per deals for bottom 6 guys teams paid.
Your "Guess" about things getting tougher in December is due to the Leafs fall at that time, right? Their save$ dropped horribly at that time. Why assume that will repeat? Will Andersen get injured at the exact same time?
And please stop with the "One of the big 4 will be moved". I heard all year Nylander would 100% be traded and Marner would get offersheets. They aren't going anywhere. - RogerRoeper
To be fair, the leafs were a sub .500 team last season from january.
Or .500
Also if marner signs at 9.5 - 10, what other team has 40m locked in on 4 players....who are all forwards?

To be fair, who cares.. They still made the playoffs, still would have finished 3rd in the division, due to Boston going on that 15-0-4 run in the middle of the season.
Also, who cares.. The cap is increasing, player salaries are increasing faster then the cap is.. I'm positive a lot of the RFA's this year will get close to $10M, at the very least, more than what Aho got.

Injuries to Gardiner and Dermott hurt them more than anything.

Ya but...
I need some more doom scenarios.. like, if they sign Marner for 11, the leafs would be the only team doing that, and like, that’s bad cause they’re spending money on their best players and that’s not cool man. Not cool!

How is this man not signed yet?

It is very, very strange.
There's rumours that he desperately wants to remain in Toronto, but I honestly don't see any path for that happening. If they had front-loaded Ceci's contract, maybe they can dump him to another team and use that money for Gardiner.
Maybe other teams are scared off by his back injury? It would be a bit of a leap of faith to sign him to a long-term deal.
I honestly don't have an answer for you.
You would think that we would have at least heard that some teams kicked the tires on him, but I haven't seen a single thing in the media.

That was a huge.
I’ll be curious to see how this teams without some of babs favourites.
No more marleau, brown, hainsey and Zaitsev this year.
I don’t have a whipping boy at this moment because most of them have been moved. - bryant

Oh.
Like the huge amount the cap increased this year?
Oh, sorry, leafs needed only 4 wins to pass Boston...so they have finished 2nd
But they had injuries

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Yeah but I mentioned the reason for their sub .500 record. the idea that will happen yearly now is ridiculous.
Is it better to have 6 players at 40 million who are not as good? I see a lot of teams pending a big amount of their cap uneccesarily on supporting talent.
