He's not. He's actually a gigantic douchebag. And that's coming from multiple people at the Edmonton Police Services who have had encounters with him. - poopstash
the quote was around "Taylor Hall is one of the best people to talk to, great person - smart world-class athlete. He brings things up in hockey related conversations that most other players would not - he's very analytically inclined, interested in new developments he wants to learn about etc. - all because he wants to be a better player and a better person".

People do generally mature, learn from mistakes, etc. as they grow. So maybe he's turned a corner in life (and I'm sure if I was a twenty whatever year old making millions a year I would have done some stupid/regrettable things too).
But I have heard several stories from people I know personally (who are not bumholes) of his time in Edmonton, and it was top-knotch d-baggery.

Once Marner is signed, there will be $40m on the CAP committed to 4 forwards (Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander).
I think Dubas has it under control for this season but also knows it is highly problematic to have a salary structure that is so top heavy on the CAP. And, more provoking, so thin and vulnerable after the top six.
My guess is the Leafs are fine until Christmas. But the league gets a lot tougher after Christmas and especially in the playoffs where depth and winning become synonymous.
Dubas knows he is going to have to deal one of the big four salaries sometime in the next 12 months. It is probably wise for him to go slow and pick his spot. - spatso
