I’m glad YZERMAN deemed it necessary to get Vasilevskiy done ahead of Brayden Point...

10.5M for a 30+ yr old goalie with injurie issues.
Yup, best contract ever. - Good On Paper
Nobody is saying it's the best contract ever, it's the going rate for Elite goalies and taking the tax disadvantage that handicaps Canadian teams in to account
(that Buttman doesn't seem to think is a huge issue for some reason...I wonder why..we all know why)
Bob gets 10M and Vasi gets 9.5M in markets that have no tax and you're sitting here trying to tell me that Price making a mill more is so outrageous. Get the (frank) out with that bullpoop
You're just an anti-Pricer, you cry that we paid that much to keep him here yet you'd be whining that we don't have a goalie if we had just let him walk |

How can Tampa keep signing their players to such big contracts and keep under the cap? - islansjet
And they got Sergachev to resign for next year as well

Curious - what was Brian Lawton's take on the Vasilevskiy signing? Jay Feaster said they should sign Point first... |

Sources tell me that Yzerman will likely be fined for tampering...signing players for other teams, to super inflated deals is not in the spirit of the CBA. E4 |

The Carey Price contract is outrageous for a goalie on the backside of his career who has had injury issues and is playing with a struggling team. And no, I'm not an anti-Price guy. I like him, I just think the contract was a bad one for MTL. I don't like the deals that Florida or TB just handed out either. It kind of feels like TB was forced into signing Vasi long term. I just don't know what will happen to their core now that they will be up against the cap ceiling. |

I would assume there would be more to the trade in terms of pieces, but what about a starter of;
Marner
-for-
Laine
I think Laine will come in ($$) a bit under what Marner is looking for. Winger for point producing winger.
Not sore what fans of these teams would think, but seems to be a good deal for both. Both high talent young players. - Big23Questions
I don't get how that helps any of them. Both team obviously would like to keep their player but don't have enough space under the cap for various reasons.
Swapping the 2 players would still make them unable to sign them anyway (unless somehow both Marner and Laine accept discount to play for the other team for some reason).

So is it Ek who doesn’t know who the Tampa gm is. Or was it his source.
Notch another one for Ek and his sources credibility. |

Again, it's neither. Yzerman left a blueprint for BriseBois to follow. |

Wow...9.5M for a goalie with a stacked team in front of him, and never has gone far in the playoffs. Third round once ? This will come back and haunt TB for sure |

Salaries are out of control now. Before long, any team that isnt under an owners budget, is going to be in cap hell. |

Yzerman might sign Holtby as a UFA. Wait. He just signed Vasilevskiy. Never mind. |

Given the AAV's for Price, Bobrovsky and now Vasilevsky, safe to say that with inflation and possiblt the cap increasing in 2021-22, that Leafs will be forced to offer Andersen around $8M aav for 3yrs in 2021. For the record, all of the above are overpaid and Andersen should really come in at around $6.5. With prospects Scott and Wall still 3-5yrs away from being NHL ready, the Leafs would have no leverage in negotiations IMO |

Montreal doesn't have the assets to trade for Laine. Laine is only 21 and is VERY likely to be a yearly 40-50 goal scorer. Drouin is garbage and is 26, I think. The idea that Drouin, a 1st round pick, and a B level prospect is going to be fair value for Laine is a joke.
Montreal just doesn't have what it SHOULD take to get Laine. But Chevy is a moron, an earthworm would be a smarter GM, so anything is possible. - jtylerm
Do you pay attention? Winnipeg only has 13M in cap space. Need to sign Connor and Laine. The Habs, IF they get Laine, will NOT be paying market value! It’s Winnipeg who is screwed against the cap! Or we’ll take Connor instead! |
