The perfect place for Shatty would be to return to the Blues! With their power play disappearing in the playoffs and really for the past couple of years with out him, this would be a good fit!

He is a puck moving defense man and a PP specialist playing right side, even if he did not stand us up in free agency for the Rags there is no room on the right for a puck moving D. Only type of defense man we need is physical minded stay at home D-man preferably playing the left side!

It makes NO sense for Shatty to come to NJ. We already have Subban/Severson/Smith playing right side. It would be beyond stupid to push Ty Smith out of the lineup for some AHL defenseman. It's a HARD pass bringing Shattenkirk to NJ!

Lol, all of Toronto's cap space is going to be tied up in Marner, so unless Shattenkirk signs for 700k, I doubt Toronto is involved in any way.

Yeah, except Ty Smith isn't in the lineup and hasn't played a game in the NHL. And people get hurt every year and we are looking at losing Greene and Vats.

I'm not saying we need to go after Shatts but I think it's a consideration. Although I'd rather try to get Gardiner. Our depth of quality defenders is pretty slim. Just not sure Shatts counts as a quality defender.

Not sure why so many people are hating on Shattenkirk. Guy is a good offensive dman and hit 40 point mark 5 times. He had one bad season on a bad team. If philly wasnt heavy on D already o would take him in a heartbeat.

Only way I see him with Devils for a 1 year deal to stick it to NYR...that being said I agree with several posters who mentioned our current depth on D and myself cant see it happening...I think Columbus could happen!

Pass. No one wants to bring in a ghost of MSG past. Its like that f'ing jersey is cursed. The second you put it on you become a has-been. Poor Kakko.

Cause Jersey has so many free agent signings that work out so well. Moron.

Better question might be whether Shattenkirk will get:

A) 1 year deal
B) P.T.O.
C) Retire

This is easily the most realistic reply yet.
Or Russia.

With his numbers last year, he would be fortunate to get 2.5 mil.

Regardless of everything else you wrote, the bottom line is Shattenkirk is garbage bro. He is brown water trash! Mueller and Carrick are more than capable of covering injured players, unless it's Subban, but let's be real, Shattenkirk doesn't help in that scenario either.

The point is, Shattenkirk sucked in Washington, he has been the 2nd worst d-man with the Rangers (1st place honor goes to Marc Staal). Shattenkirk brings nothing to the table for NJ and it would be a massive waste of time to bring him on.

Eklund: Shattenkirk Enters Free Agent Pool After Buyout...Who Should Sign Him?
- Eklund

Dear Ek:

As you know, one communications strategy is to release bad news on a Friday. As this is the Friday before a long weekend in Canada, it makes it even more so.

Seeing as how we have now passed the Leafs July 31st deadline for signing Marner (as reported by you - thank you for that), I'm wondering if maybe the Leafs trade Marner this afternoon and put out a press release just before 5 pm?

Have you heard anything?

Thanks.

Since you're a Leafs fan I think I should let you know something. Mitch Marner has been traded. It's just that it hasn't been announced publicly. I don't expect anyone to believe me. Not even Mitch Marner.

You see as Ek pointed out previously, the Leafs aren't screwing around this summer. Dubas has proven that. Ek also told us before that Dubas set a July 31st deadline for Marner to sign.

Instead of taking this seriously, Marner was seen water skiing in Muskoka with William Nylander and Morgan Rielly. Now I don't know which team Marner has been traded to or for which players, prospects and picks. But rest assured, Mitch Marner... Has.. Been... Traded... But we will not hear this publicly.

My source is a high ranking league executive.

Interesting take from a fan of a franchise that hasn't done squat in 20+ years.

I thought I read somewhere where he doesn't want to play in Canada. There was a report saying he had all the Canadian teams on his 10 team no-trade list. This might change now since the buy-out. If I was him I go to Winnipeg out of that list of teams.
