I would do Provy at 8 yrs 7m and be done with it.
Of course that depends where that leaves TK and his contract. |

Hey Ek. You said bad blood is building between these unsigned RFA's and their teams! Did your sources say that or is that just your opinion?
Last year, the following players didn't sign until Aug/Sept:
Gibson
Larkin
Hanifin
Ellis
Morrissey
Nurse
Reinhart
Theodore
I haven't heard anything about those players having bad blood with their teams. It's just business. Even Nylander dragging into December doesn't seem to have created any permanent damage. So why is this summer any different?

Wow!!! Leaf homer #1 right here. Please don’t give me 10 million. I only want 7. I’m sure it went exactly like that.
Meanwhile, in the real world, were you hit in the head repeatedly with a solid gold brick? - Ihatebrianburke

Saw the news on TSN saying that Don Waddell does not have a contract with Hurricanes as of June 30th.
Then, how can he speak on behalf of the Hurricanes concerning contracts to RFA and UFA on July 1rst ? - dolavoie
Because the owner is nuts. |

Laffs have to pay more than that. Marner is nowhere near Voracek |

Why does Gardiner remind me so much of Cody Franson.
Good D-man that believed his value was sky high, and now is not signed so far into the summer and likely will get nothing close to what he thought he would get |

The value of the players and money may make sense, but Voracek turns 30 in a few days. Marner on the other hand 8 more seasons ahead until that happens. There's no way Marner should accept a deal less than 10.5m
Watch it be some number JUST under or over 11m per season on 6-7 years.
Dubas won't make it a round number, my guess

How much will Provorov's contract he for?
How much will Marner's contract be for?
Please explain the discrepancy.
Thank you for your time. - Atomic Wedgie
Provorov wants to be paid in rubles to take to the homeland, that's the tieup I am hearing. |

I personally believe Provorov's agent is trying to get at least an Ekblad type deal with less term (7.5m for 5 years). Even if that contract was an 8 year term I would be running away...hence why he hasn't signed yet.
Provorov played pretty good for a 19 year old and especially well for a 20 year old then sadly he regressed quite a lot for a 3rd year pro. Asking for 7.5m a year would be well worth it for a defenseman at the cusp of Norris Trophy type level, but the problem is he has yet to be even at any type of consistent All-Star level play at all in his career. His play has been based mostly on his relative age and not compared to the play of other defensemen in the league.
His agent only has 2 arguments to use:
1) Minutes played. Roughly 22-25 TOI average for his 3 seasons in the league. Now having a minute eater on defense is always wanted, but it is not about how many minutes a game you play, it is about how many GOOD minutes you play. Reference MacDonald, Andrew on the New York Islanders (Averaged 25:25 TOI in 2013-2014 and 23:31 in 2012-2013).
2) Provorov had a production 2nd season. He "led" the league in goals for defensemen (17). Which I guess is a good accomplishment it still really isn't that special when other years top defensemen are scoring 20-30+ goals. It certainly isn't 7.5m good.
I believe Provorov still has a ton of potential to be better, but potential is just that. Prove something first before comparing yourself to others who have actually done it. Sign a 2 year deal for 4.5m-5m play at an all-star level for a couple years then ask for more. - Glak18
That goals explanation is the dumbest thing i ever heard, this year leader was 20, last year 17, and the year before that Burns with 29 and the next guy with 17. Burns is basically a winger and is close to the lead league in shots, probably blows every other Dmen in shots out of the water. |

If there's nothing to write about, you could always do some write ups on players or prospects in the system of your favorite team. Some readers might really enjoy it. You don't have to make stuff up and play maybe, maybe not for views in the summer. |

oh you came to the wrong blog.
he'd have to understand (or at least have a rudimentary grasp on) the sport, the economics of the sport, reality, and common sense to do anything other than just make some stuff up. |

Not sure any RFAs will sign for 8 years anymore - RogerRoeper
Eventually a RFA will take a short term deal and either get hurt or underperform to the point that they miss out on big $$$. That will scare future RFAs into more security.
It just takes one.

Provorov for Muzzin

You missed my point. They are comparable players. They both are wingers who favour the pass over the shot.
Many Leaf arguments have been that Marner isnt as good as he thinks he is, he just had a successful season because of JT. Given that statement he should be of equal value to Voracek which is a guy that generally scores in the 60-80 point range.
If you disagree with this that means you believe he is better which means given the fact that a guy like Voracek goes for 8 mill means he should get more that that in addition to the inflation that happened since Voracek would likely get more than 8 mill if he was a UFA today.
Therefore my point is just sign the guy for what he wants. This is not similar to the Provorov situation. No one is saying provorov isnt as good as what he wants. We dont even know what he wants to be honest. Everyone is waiting on the other RFAs |

Or...we could choose to live in reality and realize that Provorov isn't in Marner's league.
