Players like Kreider don't grow on trees. His size and speed alone make him valuable. Maybe they can work out a hand shake deal where he signs for one year and once cap space opens up the next season he gets his big raise. Really, the ball is in his court. If he wants to stay he signs at a discount. If he's after the money, he's gone.

At 28 he's probably going to jump on his last chance to sign a big-money ticket. I don't think you'll see him leave millions of dollars on the table when this is going to be his only shot to land a big payday. I think COL will be all over him if they have the opportunity.

and by some chance he'd be willing to leave $$$ on the table to stay with the Rangers, you can be sure he'd require a NMC, sometimes those things are worse than too much money

Yeah, but as long as it's gone by the back 1/4 of his deal it shouldn't be a huge issue. It's the full-NMC for the life of the contract that is the real killer.

If Kreids would do like 4/32, it's too much money, but the term wouldn't be terrible.

Love kreider, but he hasn't put it all together. Shows flashes of elite at times and other times doesn't... Also hasn't scored over 30 goals yet in a season.
Signing Trouba but having to buy out Shattenkirk is clearly a net positive.
Signing Panarin but having to move Kreider would still be a net positive too, but not nearly as nice as keeping both. Obviously you have to factor in what the return on trading Kreider is.
Dom Luszczyszyn front office rankings in The Athletic:
Each front office has its ability graded in six categories: Roster building, cap management, drafting and development, trading, free agency and vision. The total score was based on how important respondents felt each category was in the first survey.
8. New York Rangers (total rankings of 3.8)
“Very aggressive, which I like, but I hope that they’re not rushing the rebuild too quickly.”
“Until proven otherwise, Gorton has earned the full benefit of the doubt.”
“The Kevin Shattenkirk buy out was incredibly stupid and shortsighted.”
“The last two seasons have been a massive turnaround thanks to a unified vision from the front office, some heady trades, and a little luck. Can’t wait for October!”
It was 18 months ago to the day that Rangers brass released The Letter, an unprecedentedly transparent look at the current state of the team and its plan for the future. It was a breath of fresh air and so far it has paid dividends in what already looks like a very promising rebuild. It has Rangers fans extremely confident in the vision for the team’s present and future.
New York put that rebuild into hyper-drive this summer, signing superstar free agent Artemi Panarin and trading for Jacob Trouba and prospect Adam Fox to bolster the blue line. Add in a few kids including this year’s second overall pick, Kaapo Kakko, to the mix and there’s a big injection of talent incoming.
Will it be enough to make the playoffs is the question and has some concerned about whether the timing of everything was right, especially as the team nears the salary cap. Cap management is the team’s lowest score from both the public and its own fan base, a scary proposition for a team that finished in the league’s bottom 10 last season. The Kevin Shattenkirk buyout didn’t seem like the best move in that vein either.
Whether they jumped the gun on accelerating the rebuild remains to be seen, but players of Panarin’s and Trouba’s calibre don’t come around often, especially ones with a willingness to play for the franchise. The team did well to capitalize on that, even if it may take an extra year or two to see it all come to fruition. Regardless, Rangers fans have full faith in the current plan, and the public seems to agree that this is a top 10 management group.

You do realize Panarin scored 30 and 31 goals playing with Patrick Kane. Kreider actually tied Panarin in goal scoring last season

Stupid and short sighted? Please explain your ignorant response. It is true based on facts, Panarin scored 30 and 31 goals playing with Kane. Scored 27 and 28 the following 2 years. The 28 he scored last year was the same as Kreiders but its ok, you can ignore it cause everything you state is nothing but a fairy tale.

what is the point you are trying to make?
that they should give Kreider 11 million a year? 7 million a year?
WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE MR. BRUKIE. PLEASE EXPLAIN YOURSELF.

Relax, Francis.
(Do you need me to explain that one, too?)
Yes, AP scored a mere 30 playing with Kane...as a rookie. With 31 for a sophomore slump. He also added in about 25 more assists than Kreider has ever put up. Now, he has grown, become a leader and is in his prime.
What are you so angry about? The money? This is what contracts for the top players are going to look like now. Are we never to sign one? Is it early in the rebuild to sign him? Perhaps. But we are rebuilding around him & HIS CONTRACT now. We are shedding many decent players to be replaced by more promising ones. By every opinion of those in the know, MOST of our prospects of note stand a good chance of filling that promise.
You live in anger today, because of your fear of tomorrow.
Tomorrow looks nice, my friend.
with hyper speed rebuild in play now I M O you have to see the huge step down after
Mika at center , Strome & Names are buffers so to speak BUT letting kid centers go thru the meat grinder is not going to get there skill ,confidence or overall game to improve , may cause regression ,Look at Fla . has had a ton of talented youth but they took years to mature , and got beat up for it , had virtually no D yr before .
If Kreider isnt pkg'd with other valuable assets that arent in teamsfuture then i dont know why to get excited , i dont see 18 yr to 21 yr old 1st & 2nd yr players being primary factors with out the experience & skill around them can help them
Chtyl was pulled from center last yr cause of holes in game & level of skill to play 2 way center in NHL , Now he will overnite ? same goes for our youth, we have talent
but I D K about McDavid /Matthew franchise talent ?
we could put a pkg. of : Kreids ,Georgiev ,Lias A ,AdA
#1 pick ,D prospect ( lindgren ,keane,fin kid )
what combo of players out of that pile of talent we can trade & over pay a lil
For WHO can be found to play #2 center for NYR ?
Just like we found Brassard ,there out there .. Gorts is workin it I know it
cant wait till they shock with an out of left field deal that will dazzle us
its the last move to make to secure the seasons success
CANT GO with what we have ,Mika wont last alone ....
if we dont upgrade before camp & try to play thru this ,it will not be the P O possible season we all want & need ..L G R

You make valid points, but I don’t see them doing anything more before the season. With our present cap situation there just isn’t room for another big contract. And that’s what a proven 2nd line C will be. Even the entire package you listed might not clear enough room. I think the kids get their feet wet this season, for better or worse. Once the next batch of contracts come off the books, more balance will be achieved.
