FA could again skip the silly/excessive players going into the ring of honour and the arena could be completely empty and when fans new fans/old fans/other teams fans come they can see what a sad sack of poop this team has been over the years.
They will probably come back again and again knowing how poopty the team has been.
It's a business, you are selling a history to people to get them in the seats. - manvanfan
i guess i prefer the subtlety of not drawing attention to it. there is enough memorabilia around the rink that i dont think people will look up and say damn thats empty up there.
my other gripe with the ring of honour is that it actually looks great. imo i think it looks better than the jersey retirement banners. its easier to see/find and visually very impressive to have a picture of the player up there next to their name and number |

lol ya lump Higgins/Dorsett in with Burrows contributions here about as accurate as your Gaunce/Beagle debate...stick to wine Vintsy!! - LordHumungous
“Burrows in the ring is fine...”
I can see you’re very passionate about Burrows greatness status. Admit it, you just like to argue.
In addition to the ring of honor, they should create a ring of “guys who try hard and other stuff too” |

I like European football (soccer) and my team AC Milan used to be real good in 90s to mid 2000s and they have been pretty mediocre for quite a while. A few years ago they built their own museum for all the trophies. They are one of the most storied teams in world soccer but literally they built a museum to attract fans again. It's has worked.
My uncle is a Scotsman. He went and visited the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium a few years back and he got a behind the scenes tour and saw the history of the club. Watched a game. He is now like a kid who has picked his favourite team and is learning about their history. I think he has completely forgotten about his childhood team Hibernian F.C. in Scotland.
I'm not for just throwing anybody into the ring of honour or jersey retirements but there is certainly something to it to for fans.
As you even state that the ring of honour looks great. The actual history of the club never winning a stanley cup isn't something to be promoted but you've got to do something to show their is history to the club and the ring of honour is all they have right now. |

I thought that was the banners outside? Isn't that why Sutter is/was up there? |

i would have zero issues with them building a museum and setting up exhibits of players. ive taken many stadium tours (including rogers arena) and think there is a difference between a permanent honour in the rafters and celebrating players achievements/moments for fan interaction |

they are hall of fame players i dont think anyone is questioning that they are likely the two greatest canucks of all time, won league awards and are deserving of the honour of a jersey retirement.
its the other things that are silly/excessive like many of the ring of honor recipients. the bar for that is very low that you will run out of room quickly. ie - if mclean is up there then luongo deserves it. if ohlund is there then edler has to be - johnnykarate
But should it take a week of celebration? they weren't the first twins on the moon or something. One night to raise their jerseys not 3 but ownership is very greedy. |

lol no doubt. I'm ok with Burrows kid tried damn hard for this club loved it here gave his all almost every night. Scored HUGE goals in Nucks history. All good. - LordHumungous
You forgot that he was willing to waive to help the club. |

For a bunch of people who seem to really like work ethic guys, hard to see why you don't like Burrows. Decade of working his way from undrafted to perennial 60 point 100 hit guy, absolute core piece during the 6-7 years we were contending. IS it all just about points with you guys? Clearly a leader of those teams, easy choice IMO.
BUT, where to draw the line? Does Bieksa get in? Kesler(not much honor, but no one played harder)? Luongo is an easy yes, I wont even get into that. I have no problem with Burr though, frankly there just aren't that many Canucks that stick out in my mind that aren't already in the ring, plus he was an absolute class act. |

Holy poop, Burrows is getting his name on the ring?
This franchise needs to win something of importance quickly because this celebration of mediocrity is an embarrassment.
I hate this ownership group for emphasizing how mediocre this team has been and still is today with all this false recognition. - bloatedmosquito
Making to one game is not mediocre. missing the playoffs every year is mediocre. 2005-2010 CAnucks were very, very good. They just weren't quite great. Mediocre is about as accurate as Trump saying the statue of Liberty is referring to Europeans. |

I love Burrows. But that doesn’t mean he needs honoring as one of the all time greats. |
