I like European football (soccer) and my team AC Milan used to be real good in 90s to mid 2000s and they have been pretty mediocre for quite a while. A few years ago they built their own museum for all the trophies. They are one of the most storied teams in world soccer but literally they built a museum to attract fans again. It's has worked.
My uncle is a Scotsman. He went and visited the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium a few years back and he got a behind the scenes tour and saw the history of the club. Watched a game. He is now like a kid who has picked his favourite team and is learning about their history. I think he has completely forgotten about his childhood team Hibernian F.C. in Scotland.
I'm not for just throwing anybody into the ring of honour or jersey retirements but there is certainly something to it to for fans.
As you even state that the ring of honour looks great. The actual history of the club never winning a stanley cup isn't something to be promoted but you've got to do something to show their is history to the club and the ring of honour is all they have right now. - manvanfan
I became Hotspurs fan way back but I don’t really know why them lol. I don’t follow them closely but i stick with them. It all started when hung over the next day & started to watch the Bundesliga & Borrusia Monchengladbach became my German team so i needed an EPL team.
As for the ring of honour i’m ok with it as long the player was known to be a long time Canuck who served as well. It does take more than that to be legit though.
As for cup history i start at the earliest in 1968 when the 1st expansion to 12 teams occurred. I know we came in at 1970. So overall the modern era of Cups is only at most 52yrs old. Before then winning only 2 rounds to hoist the mug was a much easier time. It wasn’t known as the hardest trophy to win back then like it is known today. |

But should it take a week of celebration? they weren't the first twins on the moon or something. One night to raise their jerseys not 3 but ownership is very greedy. - A_SteamingLombardi
First brothers to both get 1000 pts is a record & something unique to celebrate. Idk if it will ever happen again or not but yes 3 days seems excessive. |

Just retire every jersey for guys who try hard. Dorsett? Hell yeah! Higgins? Oh baby! Might as well retire Benning and Gillis' jerseys too. - 1970vintage
You are giving Benning ideas. Stop.

For a bunch of people who seem to really like work ethic guys, hard to see why you don't like Burrows. Decade of working his way from undrafted to perennial 60 point 100 hit guy, absolute core piece during the 6-7 years we were contending. IS it all just about points with you guys? Clearly a leader of those teams, easy choice IMO.
BUT, where to draw the line? Does Bieksa get in? Kesler(not much honor, but no one played harder)? Luongo is an easy yes, I wont even get into that. I have no problem with Burr though, frankly there just aren't that many Canucks that stick out in my mind that aren't already in the ring, plus he was an absolute class act. - neem55

i would have zero issues with them building a museum and setting up exhibits of players. ive taken many stadium tours (including rogers arena) and think there is a difference between a permanent honour in the rafters and celebrating players achievements/moments for fan interaction - johnnykarate

Sutter's a cornerstone he was there to hold the building up. |

I read another Canucksarmy article written by someone who did some fancy shmancy work and came up with the Canucks getting 97 points this season. I have them pegged at 96 points. Clearly without doing all the extra work that guy did that took hours. I just looked at a few 5 minutes videos and bam came up with the same answer pretty much, - manvanfan
My buddy at work who is a Leafs fan sent me some article from some College math whiz that had the Canucks meeting the Leafs in the cup final within the next five years. He inputted a bunch of numbers into his computer program and it spit out a Nucks Leafs final lol |

“Burrows in the ring is fine...”
I can see you’re very passionate about Burrows greatness status. Admit it, you just like to argue.
In addition to the ring of honor, they should create a ring of “guys who try hard and other stuff too” - 1970vintage

Since 1965 & always will be. I’ve had my my disappointments riding out the early lean years & some other rough patches. One thing i know is working at the Mausoleum in that era I learned how lousy many fans can be. Also who are the great fans to this day. Summarized there are those who complained when it was more management the problem back then & nowadays it’s mostly whiners & band wagoners. Only those who have enjoyed Canucks hockey & it’s ups & downs do i consider the real fans. The Vancouver Blazers fans were the best i experienced when the arena wasn’t even full vs a full house of Canucks fans unless we were elite. Hence the fickle & the knock our fanbase has earned. |

When expansion were born to suck 12yrs later we were a cup finalist. Captain Video & towel power & the Canuck mobile in NY was the rage. That Cinderella team had this town on it’s ear & yet some said it was fluke. We dominated til we met the dynasty Islanders. Example 1 of fans that are pathetic.
1994 cup run was the best i’ve ever seen & again the town was lovin life.
2011 has gone down as a failure by most & again the ride & fun gets lost in it all. Ppl rather pick a part why we lost & not give credit to we were beaten. Sure we wanted more but it wasn’t to be.
Most teams haven’t had that cup run record but most ppl only see a cup as success. All the elite years & domination seems so long ago & forgotten by so many. |

I’m a diehard fanatic & don’t change my stripes through thick & thin is all. Others can define their own loyalty or reasons. I rather call some ppl less than a fan & brand them with names that suit them. A fan is a fan if ppl are honestly claiming to be one. Complaining is fine if it makes a point then move on & look ahead. The climb is as much fun as being at the top for years. Yes a cup in my lifetime would be awesome. |

A product of displacement & hence loyalty. I get it he roots for his team where he lives.
I originally was a Wings fan when a kid & the WHL Canucks. 2 loyalties for 2 leagues.
B2B WHL champions was great stuff. |

I don't have another team in another league. I used to cheer for Man U when it was Sir Alex running the show and the midfield was patrolled by Giggs, Keane, Scholes. Beckman with Ruud up front with now Man U bench boss Gunnar Solskjær. Can't forget the defence of Neville's and Jaap Stam and Rio. They went slowly went away and I just didn't have anyone I liked. I sort of bounce around from club to club depending on who I wanted to lose at the time. Always were favourite to Arsenal and Liverpool though over Chelsea and Man City.
My true favourite though will always be Nesta, Maldini with whatever other 2 in defence. Pirlo, Seedorf, Gattuso, Kaka in midfield with Svechenko up front with Super Pippo.
Just the perfect mix. Mind numbing precision and an absolute master class of how the beautiful game is to be played. |
