the team that just won the Cup was in last place in January, and it was a franchise who had never won the Cup in over 50 years - jimbo83
Yeah that was crazy. They always show that stat about teams being in the playoffs by Thanksgiving. The Blues killed that stat |

if you really believe that, why are you going to watch the games the next 3 years? - jimbo83
Im not just a Ranger fan but im a hockey fan. I love all games. Both my daughters play hockey and Ive enjoyed Mite games to Midget games. Doesnt matter. I just enjoy watching the sport.
Win or Lose im a Ranger fan. My choice would have been rebuild from the ground up. Panarin is more of a roof. Trouba was a gift from the Jets. Juror is still out on the rest of the prospects. Kakko is going to be awesome. No need to pressure these prospects now. But now there is expectations and with expectations comes pressure. Oh well, if things dont pan out, life will still go on. |

Its 77 percent of the teams in a playoff spot at US Thanksgiving. If memory serves me correctly, the Rangers were in. The Blues didnt kill it, it happens every year. |

and what's the percentage of teams being "totally out of it for the next three years" on August 17th? |

Panarin had a career year last year but was 18th in the league in scoring but getting paid the second highest in the league
- Brukie
You are always going to pay a bit more for UFA's. You keep bringing up last years stat, but since he got into the league 4 years ago he is 8th overall in scoring. That just shows you how consistent he is. Anyone could have 1 great year, he has had a good 4 years. |

I'm talking about the fact they were out of it in January and then won the cup. If I had to guess that hasn't happened in a long time, if at all. |

They weren't fine with Fox leaving. Gorton just made them a more than reasonable trade offer to allow Canes to save face. Fox put the screws to them and we reaped the benefit. |

Nice signing for Carolina. He is 2 years older than Fox, so I am still convinced we got the better player with a higher upside. Hopefully Fox will prove to be worth more than the picks we gave up to obtain him... |

Agreed 8th overall but paid the second highest now. He will be on the wrong side of 30 in 2 yrs. If his production continues to increase with age then of course he will be a bargain. If not. He wont be. Thats just obvious. Will he buck the trend and be part of the 7 percent of the players who have had an increase of production after the age of 30? Can he do it for 5 years until he is 35? Would you bet those odds? Maybe one or 2 years he can but I wouldnt bet on it.
Someone asked if Id sign Johnny hockey for the same contract. In a heartbeat. He has had more production and is 3 years younger. |

Truthfully, they could have. I have no problem with that. Panarin at 12m and Barzal at 8 to 9 mil is 25 percent of their cap space in 2 forwards. The Islanders arent any where near Cup contention. Adding Panarin would make any team better but will he put them over the top? I dont think so. Panarin is a good player but IMO not worth the 11.6 mil. Wingers command less than centers do, yet he is getting paid like and elite center, his salary is second in the league to Mcdavid. He is ahead of JT and Matthews. Those contracts were all signed last year except Mcdavids.
Panarin had a career year last year but was 18th in the league in scoring but getting paid the second highest in the league, this knocks your cap space out of whack, which it did because we lost Shattenkirk for nothing.
If this was 2 yrs ago when the Rangers were contending, he could have been a difference maker, but I dont know what to think of it now. We arent contending for Cup within 3 yrs, sorry half these prospects havent even touched the ice yet and our defense still has Staal and Smith. What is Panarin bringing us with these 3 years??? Out of lottery contention.
Speed up the rebuild or retool, oh stop crying, I survived 8 yrs without the playoffs late 90's early 80s. We signed and acquired every free agent then and they did squat. The rebuild started 18 months. Just 18 months. I could have survived another year. Shoot for a top 5 pick next year. Top 5 pick is out, Panarin will keep us out of the basement, but not make the playoffs and if by some miracle they do we will go nowhere. - Brukie
Love the rational explanation.
Point is, guys like Panarin rarely hit the market, so to me it was a no-brainer to sign him. He instantly makes any team better, and we were fortunate that NY is where he wanted to be. Same with Trouba. Some awesome young prospects fighting for spots this season. Gonna be a fun season. I can't wait! |

Rebuilds are all well and good, and I think the Rangers have made significant progress in that vain. But, you have to remember, this a business like any other, and when the prospect of another year of no playoff revenues for MSG, the Rangers had to make the move for Panarin. Does if guarantee them a spot? Of course not, but they’re a lot closer today, than they were on Aug 17, 2018.
Signing free agent players is always a high risk, high reward situation. In hockey, and in the case of Panarin, the questions is, does he make anyone better? In his case, with 114 assists over the past two years, the answer is clearly yes.
Instead of Kappo, Krastov, Buch and the rest, relying on themselves for furthering their abilities, there is now a player in the fold, who will give them the opportunity for success quicker, than if the had to play through two or three years without a player of this ilk. That would be pressure.
It’s wonderful to be young, and have plenty of time to sit back and watch your team struggle through the ups and downs of a rebuild. But, when half the company is in disarray, the other half gets the opportunity to right the ship. Panarin and Trouba, were no brainer signings, the cap will go up, Lundqvist’s 8.5 mil will come off the books, and in three years or maybe less, you’ll have a true contender.
So, let go of the doom and gloom, and enjoy the talent the organization has amassed.

would like to know the percentage split on NYR team either standing pat & continue to build after a remarkable summer and WAIT on the talent we have to fill the roles still open ….OR after the incredible moves made to up grade the talent & HANKs last 2 yrs for a cup do the NYR’s make the moves (2 c & vet D ) with our depth to make the run the team & fans deserve ,
I see chips to use breaking them downinto 4 categories to find top 2 c center / solid vet D ?
Andersen or Howden ,Georgiev 1 yr vet level
Lindstrom, Lundkqvist + other wing or D prospects just no higher on talent , from the prospect pool NO (Miller rykov)
Strome ,Names A dA Fast ? vet level
draft picks
depending on the combination of talent sold : NYR can find a top center to work with Z bad
we could even afford to over pay to get who we want , not that we should but could based on return
cant say Chtyl or Howden or Andersen will fill #2 slot , may hurt there games trying to .
with Hanks last 2 yr s & the great moves made , shoudnt we raise our sites and go for a P O reservation,
its never wrong to try to go for it , just how what you risk doing so .
I dont see the risk , we will be fine with these kind of moves to cushion the growth not stifle the kids
sounds like a great vote to finish the summer one of 2 ways ,knowing the NYR the may figure out another option or 2 ...L G R |
