Nope.

It's a fair contract. More importantly, it's encouraging your owner actually signed a contract worth more than league min. It's also encouraging to Sens fans he signed for 8 years.

But looking at it realistically, Chabot has one good year under his belt, and it wasn't a complete year. If spazzo is going to try to use McAvoy, Werenski, and Provorov as comparables, that's not very smart, because those guys have proven a lot more, and McAvoy by a wide wide margin.

This could turn out to be a great contract, but I think it's pretty much market, and could easily turn out to be nothing special. This coming season will probably tell a fair bit about which one it might be.

A+

A good contract is when both sides of the negotiation are pleased with the deal. In this case, it is three sided since the the Sens, Chabot and the fans like the deal.

I would like you to explain why you think McAvoy has proven more than Chabot. Chabot has more games, goals, assists. McAvoy is a very good defenceman on a good team while Chabot has been a very good defenceman on a bad team. Pretty comparable as I see it.

Well, you see, that's not really true, he hasn't played more games. McAvoy now has 2 full seasons and 2 playoff runs as the Bruins number 1 dman. Unless you think his play in the playoffs doesn't count towards proving yourself?

Chabot has one season with a lot of points.

It really is no contest, I'd be shocked if you get too many people that wouldn't take McAvoy over Chabot at this point.

So if Chabot was on a good team that went deep in the playoffs and McAvoy's team did not make the playoffs then you would reverse your opinion? You can only compare the indivdual players based on regular season and McAvoy has similar results if not a little worse. He is not better bya wide margin as you suggest.

Not really. Again, two years as a top team's number 1. Not one. Chabot was on their third pairing 2 years ago. those are not similar results.

You're also making the assumption that Boston would go as far as they did, EITHER year, with Chabot as their number 1 instead of McAvoy. Which, I doubt to be true.

Laine does not fit the mold of a player that would mesh well with Brindamour. He had no problem seeing Skinner leave. Laine seems to be similar or worse with what has been reported out of Winnipeg. Don't see it happening.

If Laine goes anywhere, my best guess is Carolina or Columbus.

Normally I'd take McAvoy over Chabot any day of the week. But Charlie seems to get injured often (waits for the Matthews rebuttals) so I'm not sure on who I would rather tbh.

I guess since the Leafs dont really need offensive defenseman (unless Barrie doesn't re-sign) I would still take McAvoy cause he's the better all around player. Still a little early in each of their careers to determine that though too.

If you look at it that way, it's a bad contract.

He got more than McAvoy because it includes UFA years, and he's done after that. He also gave up more UFA years than Provorov. Had McAvoy and/or Provorov signed for 8 years, they would have obviously gotten higher AAV. How much more? Who knows. More than Chabot, most likely. If they signed for the same, they'd be better contracts than Chabots, especially Mcavoy, because he's a lot better, and has proven much more.

the Bruins didn't go past a bridge because their salary structure. Not really too sure about the Flyers and why.

Or, was your point that the actual dollars paid over the first 3 years is lower than Werenski and McAvoy in their 3 years? If that's your point, and trying to point to that as it being a better contract, again, McAvoy is, to this point in their carreers, well ahead of Chabot. Werenski is as well, but to a lesser extent.

Chabot, playing for Ottawa - 134 GP, 23 goals, 80pts

mcavoy playing for a powerhouse bruins team - 117 GP, 14 goals, 60 points

"Mcavoy is a lot better and has proven way more" .......Prock logic ladies and gentlemen, can't make this poop up

I think it’s a great deal. You gotta lock down special players like this. Ottawa might be a cool town, but in the hockey world, it’s not exactly a hot destination. The ownership certainly doesn’t help.

So you gotta put pieces in place to make people wanna sign there. This is a good step.

I saw the third year. So he's worried about having to pay salary without revenue?

- prock

If there's a lockout or a strike, the players don't get paid. It's protection for Chabot. Kind of odd that he'd sign a contract with no signing bonus at all. The signing bonus is absolute protection from the lockout as it's paid in full no matter what.

Injured players (until they're cleared) and bought out players are the only ones that get their expected salary.
