after 2 games, I am ok with sobotka
he is not holding that line back, like I feared - homiedclown
See above video from the McCabe hit. 3-on-2 and he is itching to go back to the d zone.
One more good player in that spot and the 2nd line will be legit |

What if Ralph and Sean are singlehandedly making Buffalo an attractive destination.
These guys are all having fun. It's young seasons for both of them, but they're tight and they're unified and they're having a blast. As a player, there's better places to live, but there can't be many other better places to actually play. |

Would anyone do Blake Coleman for Lawrence Pilut?

i'm enjoying it while it lasts...what's particularly fun is that they'll have $33-34M in cap space next year and some youngins ready to step into roles - Michael Pachla
We may have 34M in cap space next year, but we really won’t have a lot to play with. We only have four forwards under contract next year, players like Reinhart and Olofsson will demand big raises, which will eat up the 4 million(Scandella) and 3.5(Sobotka) bad contracts coming off the books. Bogosian’s contract is hid on LTIR right now, so that coming off the books doesn’t really count into the savings. We have to plan ahead to sign Dahlin too.
Say that we get Rhino at a similar cost to Brayden Schenn’s 6.5 M contract, and we sign Olofsson to a bridge 4 M contract. That eats up almost all of the savings from Scandella and Sobotka coming off the books. And we will still have to fill those two roster spots.
The cap is expected to raise another 2.5 M. But we still have to figure in modest raises for players like Mittelstadt, Ullmark, and whoever we decide to keep amongst Sheary, Vesey, Erod, Girgs, Larsson.
We may decide to replace a few of those with younger guys making league minimum, but none of those contracts are weighing us down. There really isn’t much to play with, especially when you look ahead a year to Dahlin earining much much more.
All we can really look forward to is when Okposo drops off our books after the 22-23 season in four years. Until then we are in cap jail in my opinion.
I don’t even know how we can move things around for when Bogosian comes back off IR this year. There just isn’t the cap space for him. Botts will be forced to make a trade. |

I loved that they had Pekka Luukkonen at the pregame celebration last night. Announced him and all that. Excited for him to be ready hopefully sooner than later. |

Olofsson will be interesting. Hopefully they consider going long term with him. Would he take a 6 or 7 year deal for $6 million?
I know I'm jumping the gun here but it's pretty clear that his skill set translates to the NHL |

I was at my father’s 80th birthday in a sh!thole country where they don’t play hockey and wasn’t able to watch live. I’m watching the replay now and it’s clear that Olofsson and Jack have great chemistry. VO is the sniper. |

Pretty good size and a willingness to play along the boards as well. I love that he already has the Vanek attitude when he scores like "yeah, yeah, act like you've done this 400 times."
His ability to kill penalties if needed is nice |

There was no one, not one poster who saw and posted this type of play was forthcoming, not you, not anyone.
For 7 years I heard here variations of this team could be decent, only to see the same crap game in and game out under 3 coaches.
What we have seen through two games so far this season is nothing short of a revelation, a near miracle.
I don't think I told you so is in order.

But alas, shortly, we will all be inundated with those "I told you so" posts from all of the insecure folks that are here, every day of their lives and are in need of internet reassurance.
You and I both know this.

True, sorry for the mistake, but the cap relevance still stands. - Beethoven
They don't need to clear space to bring him back though. Next season there will be plenty of money to resign guys. I don't see Reinhart looking for a huge payday. Hopefully around $7m to keep playing with Jack. Dahlin is under contract, so any extension wouldn't count against next year's cap. If you can get Olofsson to sign long term at $6m, that would be great. Mittelstadt is an RFA with no arb rights and can't sign an offer sheet, so I would think he gets a smaller bridge deal.
We also have guys like Thompson, Ruotsalainen, Cozens and Asplund on entry level deals that could be on the roster. Not really anything to worry about with the cap yet. |

hadn't coached an NHL game in 6 years
I hated the hire, hoped I was wrong
based on 2 games, it was a good hire
lets see how long it lasts, hopefully several seasons
pretty sure the last thing anyone wanted was a 60 year old man who had nothing to do with the nhl and was in fact employed with a soccer organization
it's so outside the box
however when I heard he was hanging out in buffalo bars, and preached change, and these 2 games has shown change, he has grown on me
everyone should be allowed to change their opinion, no matter if it's about krueger, reinhart, risto, sobotka, girgens etc
the key is, if someone is open minded and capable of change, which many are not - homiedclown
I agree. Also has Ristolainens trade value increased? Eye test so far says yes.
