Michael Pachla: Lessons to learn
Sabres "dig out" a point on the road after facing a stern challenge from the Columbus Blue Jackets - Michael Pachla
If Eichel is to be known as an elite player than he must not only compete but focus shift after shift. The winning goal in overtime was the result of his carelessness. Everyone makes mistakes but that could have been avoided. |

Jack, it appeared was a bit gassed in OT on that play. It was unfortunate to be sure.
Give credit to the team for fighting back and getting a point in a subpar performance. They recognized it wasn't how they need to play...learning, and the coach has the right attitude...recognize the shortfall and the positive aspects, then move on.
Not that that was a good team over there, but they are taking a page out of VGK page...no respect being given, playing with a chip on their shoulder after 2 horrendous games before.
Time to get the Aud, errrrrr...KBC rocking over the next few game at home! |

Mental lapses will happen to any player in the league. Unfortunately, this one cost the Sabres an additional point.
They still stole one.
That's not bad. |

I think so, and Krueger actually alluded to it post-game...however, he was making bad decisions with the puck all night while trying to do way too much |

I think the issue wasn't that he wasn't focused there, it's that he was trying to do too much. He's used to being the guy that would win the game. He has to learn that sometimes he has to just make the smart play and let someone else be the hero. |

i agree he was gassed out there just like Dahlin was when he took one of his stupid penalties.. however, he shouldn't be getting himself into those positions he had time to get off the ice for a breather but did not. Dahlin however was trapped on his penalty |

It's a catch 22 for me. I want Jack to make the plays, and I'd almost rather the puck be on his stick in critical moments, but he also needs to know when to make the smart play over the highlight reel. |

risto too on the first goal-against with a one minute, 11 second shift...not ideal |

it's easy to rag on sobotka, but he wasn't the reason for the loss last night...in fact he used his stick to block a prime opportunity from the slot...not even sure how he got there so quickly |

I liked that they continued to battle. It looked like the wheels were falling off in the first. They were chasing and it was just getting worse. They came out in the 2nd refocused and while still not able to play their game, they were much more under control than they'd been in the 1st.
I'll admit I didn't watch any of the 3rd. Had the Yankees game on instead (playoffs trump game 3 of the NHL regular season). Turned it back on for OT and liked what they were doing to begin with but then Jack just tried to force things and it ended up in the back of our net. |

I usually do not defend Jack but............
He played 24 minutes plus last night
Coach should have put Casey and Sheary out for a 40 second shift and then came back with Jack
I look at the positives, I see a lot of growth in Jack's D game the first 3 games
Flying back in our end to get a puck or try to create a turnover
Team was doomed after 20 minutes and pulled a point out of their ass
it was a good day |

he was fine
second line was easily our best 5 on 5 line
that third line, did they even play
2 games and they were invisible after a strong opening night

During the 1st the only line that was even remotely effective was Girgs/Larsson/Okposo. But, honestly, last year Girgs/Larsson weren't really the "problem" either though so many around here like to rag on them. For a 4th line, they went out and did what they were supposed to most nights. Would just be nice if they could pot a goal here and there more than they seem to. |

He looks basically scared of the offensive zone. If he's with the Larrys, no problem.
I just see scoring issues coming soon. Larsson and girgs playing 15 minutes, sobotka playing 16? I could see things drying up quick here |

my biggest beef, the coach leaned on the 4th line last year
almost as if it was really the 3rd line

He’s still well out of place on the second line. |
