sobokta out
sheary on line 2

it seems so painfully obvious

I would have to think the two strong performances in a row kept the opening night lineup intact.

That logic should result in some tweaks made to the lineup after the loss last night but we will see.

The #NHLJets have granted Dmitry Kulikov a personal leave from the team. As a result, he has been designated as a 'Non-Roster Player'.

During that time, he will not count against the clubs active 23-man roster, but his cap hit will continue to count against the clubs salary cap. https://t.co/4WihHVai8U

Another dman gone from Winnipeg.

The sample size for WOWYs is very small.

Sobotka only has 4:20 TOI without both Johansson and Skinner and he's posting a 8% expected goals for percentage. 4 minutes and 20 seconds of him on the ice without very good linemates and the team has had virtually 0 chance to score.

Skinner/Johansson have only played 2:37 without sobokta and their xGF% is 84.5.

Both of those numbers are way too small sample size to draw any conclusions on their own, but combined with the preconceived notion and the eyetest of that being exactly what would happen, like hello, end this already.

Just curious if those numbers are 5v5 TOI? Sobotka does have 4 1/2 minutes of PK time. Not a lot of scoring chances on the PK.

the problem with sobotka is he is put in a position to succeed and is still failing miserably.

vesey/mittlestadt/sheary are the worst 3 for shot share, with sobotka 4th. The entire 3rd line has been underwhelming, but sobotka is a massive anchor on the 2nd line.

"the with or without you's" are staggering. johansson and skinner's numbers skyrocket when he's not on the ice with them.

- robz228

This is how I look at it. You play the best team to win each and every night. Second is developing players that will be on the team next year.
Sheary and Sobotka are UFA's with a strong chance not to return. Scandella (& Bogo when healthy*) are the same. In a perfect world, the UFA's play well and have trade value. Zero value if they are healthy scratches. That is the balancing game with development. Don't forget Vesey is here on a try out. I agree to not changing the line up because winning is fun. Plus it is 3 games!

I have no answer for Okposo other than Seattle plus a first or cut.
Mitts is the wild card, if he produces, that changes a lot.
Sam will be in the ball park of 7.5 to 9.
Olofsson gets a bridge.
Dahlin will get max deal in 21-22
In a cap world you have 4 max players. Jack, Sam, Skin and Dahlin. Do those 4 get you to the Cup compared to other teams. The defense will be above average with the current contract for the next 3 years. Above average is not top 10, just better than half.

I am not ready to run Vesey out of town yet. He hasn’t looked that bad. Beside, a week ago this was a throwaway season where trying out guys like him on the cheap was worthwhile. Now we go 2-0-1 and it’s win now?
- Buffalo--Sabres

Winning is fun and the objective as you know. The Sabres should be using this season to fully evaluate who they bring back next season, and he MAY just be number 1 in that process...and they should be trying to win along the way by instilling good habits in the crew they have.
Number 2 IMO in that process is Mitts...where does he fit in...put him at 2RW to see what he brings. 3 may be Gilmour, is he a 7th or a 3rd pairing.

Many looks should be tested this season.

Sobotka's been doing what he's expected to do in his position imo. He is 2nd on the team in hits at 13. Skinner and Mojo have 2 combined. Also, Mojo has been horrendous on the dot with a 26.3 FO%. Sobotka is at 64.3%. Mojo has taken 38 compared to Sobotka's 14. Perhaps using Sobotka more to take faceoffs would help the line get more production.

Fun fact:
Vesey, Mitts, Sheary and Girgs, Larsson, Okposo have been on the ice for zero EV goals against.

We are never going to have three scoring lines, because Mittelstadt, Sheary, and Vesey are all really doing very little, despite a couple goals from Sheary making it seam otherwise.

But we can have two elite lines if Skinner continues to create his own opportunities and Johansson continues to thrive at 2C. It's really as simple as promoting someone else to Sobotka's spot, and the obvious candidate is Vesey. He's a shooter who is playing with no help at the center position, and he looks lost. Give him or Sheary the second line spot and try to have two good 5v5 lines and a really good PP, and that might be enough to get you through a lot of games.

The maker of Fortnite may face a class-action lawsuit in Canada after two parents of teenage sons alleged last week the company purposely designed the multiplayer video game to be as addictive as cocaine, according to reports.

“The addiction to the game Fortnite has real consequences on the lives of players, many of whom have developed problems such that they do not eat, do not shower and no longer socialize,” the lawsuit states. “Moreover, rehabilitation centers specifically dedicated to addiction to Fortnite have opened all over the world, particularly in Quebec and Canada, to treat people for addiction.”

Can I be mad at Sobotka's deployment yet or are we still in a holding pattern?

I called Sheary pulling his 2-game goal flourish and then 10 game houdini act pretty much the second he put that 2nd goal in. He is what he is. Frustrating.

Sobokta can rack up the hits because he never has the puck and is usually in his own zone

not exactly what you want from a 2nd line winger

I’m having fun watching this team play. That was something I was unsure I’d be able to do this year.
Play Sobotts, sit Sobotts, whatever. It’s been an enjoyable start.

Complacency is the death of this franchise. Sobotka doesn't need to kill someone to be taken off the second line.

Ask yourself, can I do better there with an internal move or an external move that costs me very little? The sabres should be asking this at every position. The first spot I answer yes to is 2RW. I can get better internally or I can make a cheap move to get almost anyone and be better. The standard isnt, "what is he doing wrong?" It is, "can we improve here?"
