this is what happens when a g.m. is on his 2nd 5 year plan. the 2nd plan, hatched out of desperation because the 1s t 5 year plan didn't work, is now unbalanced. experience is playing with inexperience. what worked last season (pk), isn't working this season. what didn't work last season (pp), is working this season. it's a merry-go-round to nowhere.
last season the canadiens played an "exciting" brand of hockey. us habs fans, who have come to accept mediocrity, were just happy that they were "fun" to watch. but this season, we are watching a discombobulated team. lines changing weekly, veterans like price, talking in frustration about his window closing. weber looking slow after an intense off-season of training. Molson saying publicly that he is "really excited" about the next 3 to 8 years for this team. WTF???????? It's no wonder the bell centre sold out only 25 of 41 games last season. they will be lucky to sell out 25 times this season.
and there is the rub. it may only occur to this oblivious ownership/management group that we fans are sick and tired of their and our acceptance of mediocrity, if the gate revenues don't add up to the usual counted on profit that this cash cow called the montreal canadiens has always provided. add another season of no playoffs and maybe, just maybe, someone in this hockey smarts town of ours will have an epiphany. until then, I suspect we're in for more of the same old, same old. ole, ole, ole, ole. .
