I would like everyone's thoughtful opinion on this:
What would be the reaction of the Ranger fanbase if the Rangers sent out another letter to the public this January? The letter would address buying out Hank this coming summer.
Buying out Lundqvist would save the team $3 mill on the cap next season. It would also clear out a roster spot for Shesty. The Rangers would owe only an additional $1.5 mill in 21-22.
By making the announcement in January, it would give fans the opportunity to see him play prior to the buyout and create a "retirement" tour around the division.
Personally, I am a big fan of Hank and I have great memories of his play wearing our jersey. However, I also think its time for him to move on at the end of this season. The $3 mill in cap savings may be the difference in the team keeping players like D'Angelo or obtaining a higher contract in a trade, etc.
On the downside, this may prove to be a big distraction to the team and mess up the locker room.
Curious to what you guys think... |

I wouldn't mind it, but the fans would lose their crap over it. The best way for this to proceed is to convince Hank to take some kind of role with the team and have him "retire". Really just as an ambassador, Hank could have a job for life.

I would hope Hank would embrace a role like that with the organization for the future, but not sure he would want it after being "forced" out. Thats why I'm curious to see what you guys think... |

Hank doesn't seem like the guy who would take kindly to being pushed out. No matter how well intentioned or how well it was done |

I dont think thats gonna happen. We could field a team with all the players we have bought out already.

All 3 of them? Or are you seriously bringing up guys who were bought out 12 years ago in trying to make some kind of point? |

I heard Brad Richards looked good in the old timers game vs Boston.
And Girardi is not "That" retired |

Trying to make a point. A buyout costs money, imagine going to your boss and say "I need a few million to let this guy go even though he isnt that bad, cause we need space" Im sure your boss would say make it work. |

It depends on your point of view.
Legally, he’s doing nothing wrong. He’s honoring his contract, and expects the Rangers to do the same.
However, as a veteran of the team, and given the the fact that his contract will expire after next year, along with the unexpected rise of the two young netminders. It would be nice if he recognized he’s in the way, and agree to be moved, or bought out.

That's absolutely 150% absurd. That guy was the best goalie in the league for however-many-years and now you think he should fall on his sword for the organization? I'm positive that if you told fans of any team in the league "you're going to get Hall-of-Fame level goaltending for over a decade, but you gotta put up with a couple years of that guy being average/pedestrian at the end" that they'd all sign up for it.
He isn't doing anything wrong, legally or otherwise. Wanting to run the guy out of town after everything he's given that organization is, if I'm being honest, pretty pathetic. |

if Kravstov had accepted the demotion and played his balls off like Chytil did, he could be back here already
Andersson, I think people really better start coming to grips with the fact that he's just not that good - jimbro83
Andersson not doing well in Hartford either. The Pack are slumping since his arrival. There goes his trade stock even more |

There are bunch of Rangers fans on twitter who despise Hank. i get his play has dipped, but hes been the best player for over a decade. They actually try and sell that hes selfish and that his teammates hate him. At this point I think they just do it for clicks |

He won't need to fall on the sword when Shesty and Georgie are stabbing him in the back in his sleep |

Someone finally gets it. If there were no dead cap hits, nobody would give a sh!t about Hanks financials here. |

He dragged some really not-all-that-special Rangers teams pretty damn deep in the playoffs a lot of years. I'm really not someone to get all that attached to players in general, but implying that he's doing the organization/fans any sort of disservice by not volunteering to tear up the NMC in his contract that he earned ten times over is just nonsense. |
